He didn't miscalculate, he didn't make full contact with the legs nor was the tackle directed at them. We can keep debating that, it was close, but it certainly wasn't a "clear and obvious" error on the ref's part and should have never gone to VAR in the first place is the thing.
It was a late tackle, a genuine attempt to get the ball, wasn't purposeful or malicious, and wasn't even that high.

The Thirst Section’s Man of the Match absolutely ran the show. A gorgeous long ball to set up Sam Smith’s opener, a clever flick to restore Wrexham’s lead, and a commanding defensive performance all night long. Doyle stepped up on the big stage and looked every bit the part. Chelsea needed VAR and extra time to escape the Racecourse… and Doyle was a massive reason why. Callum Doyle of Wrexham stands on the pitch at the Racecourse Ground in the red home kit, applauding the supporters with both hands raised overhead.
