A DOGE staffer testified that a documentary about Jewish women used as slave labor during the Holocaust was targeted for termination because it was "inherently related to DEI."

The later revised version feels like it had the hand of a producer or someone (maybe SP himself) deciding to make it one act instead of two and so on. That original '79 production with Antony Sher, Toyah, and so on is top of my list for shows I'd most want to time travel to see.

I like the idea of Kareem in 2060 doing Subway Takes with a giant Letterman-in-retirement beard and a walker.

Really really really wanted to stage his "American Days" after finding the production script in a used bookstore in Evanston, and still think it would be amazing with the right cast. (The revised version in 'Plays: One' isn't as good.) Best play I know about the punk Pistols era.

Underrated recent Cale moment: when Marc Maron tossed out that Eno invented spa music, and Cale was offended enough to make him explain what he meant.

Picture of Marjane Satrapi alongside a quote from her. The quote reads:

The world is not divided into countries. The world is not divided between East and West. You are American, I am Iranian, we don't know each other, but we talk together and we understand each other perfectly. The difference between you and your government is much bigger than the difference between you and me. And the difference between me and my government is much bigger than the difference between me and you.

And our governments are very much the same...

- Marjane Satrapi, Iranian-French graphic novelist

Thinking about this quote from Persepolis creator Marjane Satrapi again.

The ICE jail in Georgia will be the largest jail or prison in the US, by a substantial margin. It’s in a warehouse with no HVAC, medical, or sanitation facilities. ICE didn’t even contact the city, which says it doesn’t have enough electricity or sewage processing.

I love that @modernlanguage.bsky.social has posted the depositions of the DOGE bros who gutted the National Endowment for the Humanities. All part of the lawsuit the MLA, AHA, and ACLS have filed against the federal government.

Then what?

β€œBlow the hell out of these people” is a means, not an end.

Kill and destroy in pursuit of… ?

Expect the violent means to achieve positive ends because… ?

This is the Israeli playbook from Gaza (and Putin's in Ukraine for that matter) and it is ultra-disturbing to see the US carry out repeated attacks on civilian infrastructure. It simply does not serve a military purpose.

Worth watching the whole clip, but purely in propaganda terms it seems to me, admittedly just an amateur observer when it comes to war fighting, that it may be useful to send the message to the 91+ million Iranian civilians that we are not trying to kill them.

Just thinking about how, before buying Paramount, Ellison's time at Skydance was so mid-to-bad that Paramount executives had to tell him that his taste in movies is garbage. www.vulture.com/article/larr...

Inside a 12-Hour Workday for a 2-Hour Broadway Show WSJ spent a day in the life of a Broadway electrician to reveal the billion-dollar machine behind this American art formβ€”from the factory floor to a nearly sold-out performance.

A fantastic WSJ video by Jaden Urbi offers a look behind what goes into a Broadway show, with the viewpoint of a second-generation theatre electrician, and including the revival of Chicago that's been running almost 30 years.

I know the lower market segments aren’t traveling as much in this economy, but I have some advice for even middle income travelers.

Make sure you have the financial resources to handle getting stuck somewhere for extra time if something should happen. It’s becoming increasingly common
