What about a scanner that, when you drop into a system automatically does a detailed surface scan of every planet within 500 LS?

Took me 8.5 minutes in the Mandalay using SCO. You can jump (FSD) on the return journey

Use a ship with the SCO drive and fill your ship with fuel tanks

FDEV have not delivered a large deep exploration ship. They have delivered a ship that makes big jumps.
