"The provincial government has made it potentially illegal... to make public transit, and just mobility for everybody, really fast." β€” @shoshannasaxe.bsky.social (@civmin.bsky.social) on dedicated bus lanes, tonight at 8pm with @jeyantvo.bsky.social

Now Trump EPA head, Lee Zeldin, enters the scene with rank dishonesty & theatrical indignation to dispute the NY Times' correct, accurate reporting.

But I've read the EPA smoking gun document, I'm a 30+-year clean air lawyer, I understand its meaning better than Zeldin, & I have the receipts. 1/

It’s not about drugs. If it was, Trump wouldn’t have pardoned one of the largest narco traffickers in the world last month.

It’s about oil and regime change.

And they need a trial now to pretend that it isn’t. Especially to distract from his sinking under Epstein and skyrocketing healthcare costs.

Abysmal statement from Canada on the illegal US action in Venezuela.

It doesn’t matter how much you dislike Maduro, that doesn’t justify a violation of international law and the UN Charter. You can’t call on β€œall parties” to respect international law and not call out US lawlessness.

Just ONE DAY left to submit a comment on Bill 60, which will block not only ALL new bike lanes in Ontario that take away car lanes, but also puts bus lanes, patios, and pedestrian streets at risk too. Submit your comment here before the end of November 22: ero.ontario.ca/notice/025-1...

NEW: Looks like CycleToronto won in court. Justice Schabas finds Ontario's law (AND version 2) to remove bike lanes infringe S7 of the Charter and is not saved by S1, in large part because the govt had no evidence to back up its claims.

The EPA cited my paper in their argument against the endangerment finding today. However, their point is completely backwards: my paper actually supports the EPA's 2009 range of 1.8C to 4C warming by 2100. www.nature.com/artic...

Bike Share Toronto has massive room to grow: average trips per bike have increased by about 30% between 2019 & 2024, while total trips have more than doubled. This means the increase in trips is mostly due to system expansion. Build more and they will come!

Very cool work analyzing building permit data from Edmonton! I recently published a preprint on using a similar approach to get a picture of housing construction-related GHG emissions (dx.doi.org/10.2139/ssrn...). @jacobdawang.com I'd be happy to run some numbers for Edmonton if you're interested!

Guess I need to re-up this article from last fall. Ford does not understand something essential about city roads: intersections are the bottleneck almost everywhere so bike lanes aren't hurting traffic.

Yes, the value of infrastructure goes well beyond what we can describe through monetary means. That was the main theme of my Ph.D. thesis!

If you're curious, in this article I discuss different lenses through which we can think about infrastructure + value: iopscience.iop.org/article/10.1...

The University Ave cycle tracks are state-of-the-art. Their glorious width is future-proof for our growing cycling city - safe passing space, e-bikes safely coexisting, room for everyone. Narrowing the most beautiful cycle tracks I've ever seen for an extra car lane we don't need is so sad.

Ford promised bike lane removals could happen today onward in TO (Bloor W, Yonge, & Uni). That means we’ve got to be vigilant & have our eyes open. If you see construction crews amassing to remove lanes, post/tag local cycling orgs & advocates. Send pictures. Be safe & don’t interfere.

Having car-free days (two per year) and CiclovΓa (every Sunday) was amazing growing up in BogotΓ‘! There was always some pushback (particularly for car free days), but by and large they are programs cherished by Bogotanos and one that I really hope I see in Toronto.
