It's not even close to the worse case either. In fact, it's a lot close to the best case.

Translation - a general just explained to me that if we continue at the current rate we'll be out of bombs in a couple of weeks.

Another example of media not understanding that X isn’t real people with real opinions?

There was a time when the only media coverage these people got was when Roger Cook was secretly recording them.

He got a huge help from Trump threatening the country.

Did he go on to appear in Star Wars?

I’ve come to realise that politics was better when turnout was low. There used to be a bar to entry - reading a paper, watching the news - that kept a lot of dolts away from the ballot.

Trump explaining to a Swiss audience that β€œif it wasn’t for us in world war 2 you’d all be speaking German” is incredible comedy. Like vintage Norm MacDonald.

To be at the centre of attention

Carney is saying all the right things but I've no confidence that the Americans will even understand what he's saying tbh.

No ultimatums - nuke it from space.

Same with seatbelts. Smoking would never get banned now either - the govt would be terrified to even suggest it.

The UK government shouldn't need a culture secretary to tell it how truly fucking awful X is.

Related to this - Boris Johnson does not get enough criticism for purging the Liberal side of the party

Pretty sure that every one of them would have had the whip removed immediately by every Tory leader prior to Boris Johnson.

The NPC stuff is incredibly fash coded

Why this level of abstraction? Why give yourself so much work to do explaining terms? Why not say things like β€œwe’re going to make the world better and safer for women and girls and this is how we’re going to do it by xyz.”

23.08.2025 22:00 πŸ‘ 6 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 2 πŸ“Œ 0

I think it makes sense if the goal is to win clout in America and make money rather than gain votes in the uk

β€œFood insecurity” is bad because it’s cold and mechanical. If people talking about hunger can’t do it in a human way why should anyone listen? The right speaks to peoples emotions, the left are nearly always at this level of wonky abstraction that just gives you a headache.

Using plain language isn’t insulting. People know what a prisoner is, they know what a homeless person is. Inventing new terms for this - you’re just giving yourself more work to do and making it harder to communicate.

23.08.2025 21:31 πŸ‘ 3 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Lots of folks on here don’t understand that you need to talk to regular people using language they can understand.

They’d rather burn it down and own the ashes than have the other side build something better.

I was actually a paid subscriber in the early 2010s - it's where you went to find out what sensible conservatives were thinking. It's now howling mad. I wonder who their audience is. Does *anyone* read Alistair Heath and think - yes, this is a great take.
