In the 12 months leading up to September 2023, there were 13,600 equal pay claims made in the UK.

In 2024, workers at five of the UK's largest supermarkets, Asda, Tesco, Morrisons, Sainsbury's and the Co-op, were pursuing equal pay cases.

The laws were passed in May 1970 but did not come into effect until December 1975, giving employers time to prepare. One of the triggers for the laws was the 1968 Ford machinists strike.

#OnThisDay, 29 Dec 1975, the Sex Discrimination and Equal Pay Acts came into effect in the UK. These made it unlawful to discriminate based on sex or marital status, and made it a requirement to pay men and women equally for equal work.

UK Still Taxes the Poorest More Than the Richest - Equality Trust New data from the Office for National Statistics shows that the poorest 10% of households in the UK are still paying a higher proportion of their income in tax than the richest.

UK's regressive tax system.
Poorest 10% of households paid 48% of income in tax; richest 10% paid 39%.

Poorest 10% paying 12% of income in VAT; richest 10% pay 3%.

Council tax: Poorest 10% paying 7%; richest 10% pay 1.2%.

No govt plans to end inequity.

I live in Clare, I'm not an FF voter personally. However, I would have a lot of respect for Timmy Dooley. He took political risks supporting the Repeal Campaign when many here didn't, he has consistently opposed the Far Right and racism. Loughrey is a less than useful idiot.

Over the weekend, a lot of people were angry at how a disability support worker was treated by Simon Harris. He apologised.

But in reality, workers like her are still fighting for equal pay.
And they are still not being treated fairly by the government.

Here's the backstory:

Today is International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Girls.

I won’t stop campaigning and voting and advocating for survivors until every woman and girl is safe from male violence

Proud to represent a party that will start by halving violence against women

Andrew Tate got banned from Bluesky in less than one day.

Another reason things are so much better here than Twitter.

I heard that Andrew Tate tried to come stretch his awkward wings here and got banned in just one day.

Sorry, hate has no home here. Stay in the bad place, thanks.
