Here's a pretty-looking flow chart of bacon's nutrients...not gonna lie, that's a lot of sodium #dataviz
What's the most popular nut in the world?
Well, the data is a bit sparse, but it seems like there's a three-way race happening with cashews, walnuts, and almonds #dataviz
this recent radar chart on liver got a shout out in datawrapper's newsletter π here it is for y'all's viewing pleasure
reminder that liver is really healthy because, in a lot of animals, it stores a bunch of vitamins #datavis
oh wow, i like this a lot! i might try to recreate it π
I compared eel and salmon together for a proof-of-concept of these flowcharts. The two have a lot in common - they're both high in water, for example - but the differences are there, if not nuanced.
No surprise to anyone that eel is a little fattier #dataviz
ooh, never heard of the book. interested to eventually dive in
ugh, i love beeswarms. i feel like they donβt get enough recognition
ah, cool. kinda nice to see examples like 2020, where research was overwhelmingly focused on one goal. tryna make sense of the other years lol
the science points overwhelmingly to this, but we could always use more evidence lol
yes! i know some people were talking about space debris a few years ago, but now i think more are paying attention to it
omg these pictures are stunning
wow, what a strong statement! planning to dif in when i get a moment
as a data journalist, I love the noaa π oh no
Not all salmon is created equally, as demonstrated by these radar charts. I made them a few years back, and while I would change a few things, still interesting to see.
What the hell is going on with sockeye salmon? #dataviz
A treemap isn't the clearest way to compare values with each other, but it is fun way to look at data. here are all the amino acids found in raw pink salmon, and you can see the list is pretty distributed #dataviz
ah, i have this issue all the time in p5.js! sometimes I have to move to threejs
This isn't as comprehensive of a list as it probably should be, but the trend is suggesting that liver has more vitamins than other parts of the body. and, biologically , we know that's true
Ahh, so cool to see out in the wild haha
Graphic titled βNot All Animal Foods Act Like Protein.β Subtitle: βA comparison of protein-dominant and fat-dominant foods based on how they actually behave in the kitchen.β A Venn diagram with two overlapping circles. The left circle is labeled βProtein-dominant,β the right circle βFat-dominant.β Protein-dominant foods (left circle): chicken breast, shrimp, cod, turkey breast, tilapia, eggs, tofu, lentils, tempeh, and sirloin tip. Fat-dominant foods (right circle): butter (listed twice), tallow, foie gras, lard, duck fat, and pork fatback. Foods in the overlapping middle (both protein- and fat-dominant characteristics): chicharron, chicken feet, bacon, pork belly, chicken skin, paneer, pig feet, and sausage. Source note at bottom: βSource: Artist Interpretation.β Bottom right corner includes the Gourmet Data logo.
Is bacon a protein?
This is a metaphorical discussion more than a scientific one, but that idea is simple; some animal products are fats, some are proteins. No one would consider a butter sandwich to be valid...but where does the line actually begin and end?
Is a BLT a valid sandwich? #dataviz
thanks for the heads up!
Just a reminder that almonds are mostly filled with fat, which kind of breaks my brain because I donβt usually associate them with being fatty
ahh yea, this scratches a very deep itch
Sharing another piece on mine; this one is a data dump of stats I collected on liver. kind fun to see how healthy it is

Looks interesting, will have to see what's happening in my life around that time haha
the colors of this chart go so well together
increasingly, I think more platforms are gonna be adapting this behavior. clearly there is an appetite for data that is personalized and real-time
Ooh, I hadn't seen the graph on the left before. and so early for his time too
Nice to see that other people are also thinking about this
Yesss, it's where so much of the flavor accrues
