Teams have so much data to suggest that an athlete is ready to return to play. Tatum has been (very likely) undergoing regular force plate and dynamometry testing, IMU testing, in-shoe ground reaction force monitoring. In short, he would not return at 9 months if it wasn't evident he was ready.
9 months is on the early side of Achilles rehabs but the Celtics are a smart team with a good athlete rehab and performance team.

Little known fact: the 33rd birthday is the Prickly Pear Margarita at Applebee's birthday
I think a sort of gallows humor is necessary to do that job, & that's what was at play there

Was sitting at a stoplight when an ambulance with the sirens blaring drove by. The paramedic smiled at me and waved and something about the duality of the situation--a kind happy paramedic driving to a health crisis--struck me.

I think that's true.
There's so much misinformation and crap information out there in the exercise science/sports science realm. I've often thought about starting a podcast (because it's much easier to discuss in that form compared to writing) but does the world really need another podcast?
As an exercise scientist I may have to try this out...for science, obviously.
The issue is the beer. It would have to be Keystone Lights and I'd need to be hooked up to a catheter. The run(s) and the tacos are child's play.

Kinda both.
Generally speaking, as long as you're consuming a broad diet, supplements are largely not needed, except for certain instances where a doc might recommend specific vitamins or minerals.
The 1 g/lb of protein is for those working out frequently and is on the high end.
Most supplements are useless. The ones that do work are probably only the most impactful amongst the highest performers.
