I could do that as well... I still have my original copy of Thunderhawk for Mega-CD.

Just for fun this evening, played Mega-CD Soul Star. Kina funny playing one of my own games, but I was in the mood...
Did make me think of doing a PC retro style version. Same graphics and sound, but running at a much higher frame rate, plus loads more fx sprites!๐ Hmm... Might do it just for fun.๐
#C64 #Kouyate #RPG progress: not been feeling good about things recently, so no coding progress. But have been doing some design work on weapons and armour. Planning on having 48 weapons and 48 armour items. Been watching anime on Crunchyroll to get some ideas on weapon and spell variety.
#C64 #Kouyate #RPG progress: fixed my PC sound issues with a USB sound card.๐ So did a bit more work on wandering NPCs, adding the system that triggers combat when you're next to a hostile NPC. Turned out to be simple to implement.๐ Down side: I now have to redo all dungeon enemies in the game...๐
One song that hits me hard is the Genesis song Since I Lost You. These days I cry just thinking of it. Some days I just don't know what to do...
#C64 #Kouyate #RPG progress: a quick little video clip showing the positional swap when bumping into wandering NPCs. No more getting stuck in narrow passages! Yay!๐๐ There's no sounds as my PC is having audio problems (I think the motherboard audio is dying).
I'm going to implement a system of swapping places for wandering neutral NPCs you bump into. ๐ Was always a pain at times on Ultima when NPCs blocked your path.
Wandering system is flag based, so an NPC can switch from neutral to hostile if attacked, or neutral to scared (wild animals etc). Can also set NPCs not to wander (for stationary guards etc). It's also possible for hostile NPCs to lose LOS and thus go back to wandering.
#C64 #Kouyate #RPG progress: started adding in a simple "wandering" system for NPCs. The idea is: if neutral (used mostly for NPCs in settlements), will wander randomly; if hostile, will go into attack mode upon spotting the player; if scared, will run away from the player.
So I gave Moonring a go, but I'm finding it so frustrating to play that I think I'll be giving up on it. At least it was free. I've seen playthroughs and it's almost as if the gameโs been made harder since release. Whatever, it's not a fun experience for me right now.
#C64 #Kouyate #RPG progress: had a rough few emotional days, so no progress to report. Thinking of reworking combat so that enemies will be seen wandering the dungeons, instead of the current system of random encounters... Looks good in my head at least, so we'll see...
I'm undecided about posting a video clip of the Dungeon of Fire... I mean, I don't want to show everything before the game is released!
#C64 #Kouyate #RPG progress: Dungeon of Fire is looking better, and I'm really happy with it!๐
I did a quick count of background tiles created so far, and it's over 1500. I'm expecting that to go way up when I revisit all the tile sets to add all the little details and variations.๐
#C64 #Kouyate #RPG progress: making really good progress on the Dungeon of Fire tile set and maps, so much so I was tempted to post a WIP video clip...๐ค but perhaps I shouldn't...๐ Anyway, hoping to get the tile set completed soon.๐

All my tools run on a PC, and run the code via the VICE emulator. I have a selection of real machines to test final code.
C64 is 6502.
I use 100% assembly language, and use my own custom tool chain for everything, including my own sprite, char, map, music and bitmap editors.
A view from on bed, with my white cat on the left, and the ginger one on the right. They have their backs to me, but I'm sure they want breakfast as the clock says 8:25.
Cats are on the bed. I think they want me to get up and fix breakfast...
It was pretty straightforward as my engine supports animated tiles. I just had to make sure the draw code was fast enough, and thatโs pretty optimised now.
#C64 #Kouyate #RPG progress: before working on the fire and lava dungeon, decided to extend the Dwarven mines a little, so worked on that this evening and got it hooked into the game. Basically, there's now a back entrance to the mines that leads else where in the world...๐ค Oh, let me show you...
I really should make a new YouTube video... So much has happened since the last one I made. I'm determined to finish this game! C64 needs it (at least I think so).
Oh, and I must resist the urge to post screenshots of everything in the game!๐
#C64 #Kouyate #RPG progress: with the script for the dwarf king added, started to work on the last tile set of the current continent, a place called Dungeon of Fire. Me thinks it's going to be very hot in there...๐ Might need to find some special armour...๐ค

For a break, I could do an Amiga AGA version of Zeta Wing 2. Hmm... tempted... Music would be the only problem.
#C64 #Kouyate #RPG progress: I forgot to add the dwarf king to the dwarven mines! ๐ฎ Not to worry, I've added a new map section for the king (so it can play different music), and linked that in. ๐ Just need to write the conversation script next as the king has things to say to the player party...
The Mistress and the Three Littleย Pigs.
Here's a short story I wrote ages ago while working at my previous company. It did get me into a bit of trouble at the time, but oh wellโฆ Here's another of my crazy little stories about The Mistress. "Children (and grown-ups), are we all sitting comfortably?โฆ

Here's a short story I wrote ages ago while working at my previous company. It did get me into a bit of trouble at the time, but oh well... NB: the following is just a bit of fun. "Children (and grown-ups), are we all sitting comfortably? Good, thenโฆ
It is hires mode, and some optimised code.
#C64 #Kouyate #RPG progress: not been feeling so good about life recently, so progress has been a bit slow. Still, been working on shop interiors for the Dwarven mines, so here's what I have so far. Also added a few secret areas... I'll say no more...
#C64 #Kouyate #RPG progress: I feel like I'm making good progress on the tiles for the dwarven mines, with the shops all added and working, so I've included a few WIP screenshots.
324K out of 960K cartridge space used. Still a long way to go... but any progress gets me closer to finishing.๐
