Watching that newer Naked Gun movie.

It's... Actually good? It understands dry delivery where people just respond to the silliest goofiest things happening with a complete straight face?

It's unfinished and supposedly abandoned by the author according to his own words. But still, neat.

Metal Hunter on Steam This is an imitation of a JRPG with a dual system of humans and tanks. In the ruined wasteland world, humans drive chariots to hunt down various monsters and hunt down powerful wanted criminals. These...

Found a free indie title that's very obviously inspired by Metal Max. store.steampowered.com/app/3338560/...

If you hit that point where you hate everything and want all the upcoming output to flop, it's time to stop paying attention to most gaming news and just focus on the stuff that works for you instead.

I have no idea what any of the big western publishers have been doing for the past few years.

It is kind of wild how many extremely convenient shortcuts that kitchen has to unlock extremely rich taste to anything you feel like adding it to once you know them.

Found a Chinese supermarket that carries bottles of concentrated dashi that should keep well in a fridge. Tested it out with some basic miso soup.

I've now made the only worthwhile miso soup I've had in this country outside of the restaurant I worked at ages ago. (Which no longer exists anyway)

I remember trying to play Police Quest back in the day and literally never getting further than the flat tire trap. Player hostility is fine when it's playful, but Sierra never felt that way to me.

A lot of respect to the people braving these games.

I barely watch any English content anymore, but Michael Coorlim's channel is one of the few I make time for when he uploads. www.youtube.com/watch?v=cPjn...

I thought Crash Team Racing patching in microtransactions some time after launch so reviews couldn't warn people about them being there was peak scum, but this is wild.

One thing standing out with this camera is that when using Curves in Photoshop to adjust the image balance, Auto basically doesn't do anything.

Phone camera, auto adjust would attempt a lot of lifting to fix the balance.

Local election posters are being pasted over on a daily basis. Caught them putting on another layer.

Wild how cutthroat they are considering so few people actually vote for these.

I wonder what percentage they codeveloped, because it basically shares the townbuilding theme, HUD, functionality, small task focus, item unlock system, workbench system, in-game camera functionality with Builders 2.

Like, this is as direct as going from Torneko to Shiren.

Not much interest in the IP itself, but one of the other major spinoffs did end up getting me into Shiren so there's always value in these offshoot titles.

Oh yeah, that new P*kemon game is by the DQ Builders folks, right? Watching a stream, and it's so much more immediately apparently visually than I thought it'd be.

Good on them for bringing their quality output to another audience.

I just want to highlight MGS. Especially the first two. For having such an absurd load of cutscenes while still not making me feel like I'd want to skip any of it during replays.

But Kojima tends to be a bit more aware in terms of how he employs things. (4 and 5 fuck up though)

Oh, "Great Edo Warrior Tonosaman" hits hard.

トノサマン (Tonosaman) being a pun on 殿様 (Tonosama), feudal lord. With the "n" stuck at the end like a Superman or kinnikuman style "man."

The kanji on his forehead is 殿 from 殿様, the way Kinnikuman has 肉 (lit. meat) on his forehead.

I still can't believe this became a meme everywhere *except* the Netherlands.

01.03.2026 21:23 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0

Dutch books are even bigger than English language ones btw. Both in page size and count.

I get that the language isn't meant for things beyond filing taxes and trading stocks, but it's so horrible for conveying stories.

Yeah, Japanese versions you could combine it with the lower shelf and have space left.

And have space up front so you can double line books on one shelf. It's really ideal.

That... Can be very real actually.

Here's JP Kusuriya vs EN Youjyo Senki. Based on the ebooks, Kusuriya is the longer book in the original version. Using way more kanji. New sentences on a new line.

Unless it's all katakana, JP books are thin and tiny, generally. Size is hard to tell.

01.03.2026 21:14 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 2 📌 0

Yeah, the thing is that Japanese adopted western style formatting and punctuation late. Old Japanese had no punctuation. So a new sentence was started on a new line.

Technically, a lot of 。breaks in modern books aren't a true sentence ender either.

So this is a headache to read.

01.03.2026 21:07 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0

(That said, this format is a headache to read. Old Japanese and no linebreaks in western formatting... If I'd have to take a cynical jab at it, it's printed this way to lower paper costs.)

01.03.2026 21:02 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 2 📌 0

That happens. Shojo Senki is formatted that way too.

Maybe it's because people spending a lot of their time reading Wikipedia and internet articles are more used to that format, not sure.
