Well now that dril is gone what is the point
Anyway. Canβt do anything retroactively, but thinking about in light of news that facial recognition tech is being used against protesters and activists and how this might factor into your personal threat modeling.
When traveling through four international airports this week, I had my photo taken for facial recognition purposes at least once per stop. Unlike the TSA screening photo that you can theoretically opt out from, these were all mandatory to clear customs or board a plane.
McDonaldβs French fries x Louis Roederer at the airport
The RACC-provided art pieces are a nice touch but idk how I would feel as an artist knowing my work is being displayed at the crime airport (which is what the jury room feels like)
First time in the (not so anymore) new county courthouse and itβs nice, but then I remembered that OMA/Koolhaus was in contention for the design and now Iβm mad about it again.
Anecdote on the current state of transit in Portland: today I need to get from inner NW (on a major thoroughfare) to the county courthouse downtown, and all maps say I will still need to walk 9 minutes to get to my destination. That is basically one third of my commute time.
Intrusive thought: Auld Lang Syne, but sung in the style of Tom DeLonge
Screenshot excerpt of a white background webpage with the House & Garden masthead. βThere are two approaches facing anyone in this predicament. One involves deciding itβs far too late, and youβre going to introduce your children to the tradition of Thai takeaway for Christmas dinner followed by a whole tin of Quality Street (after all, nothing says Christmas like the preferred confectionery of Saddam Hussein β yes, he really did love a chocolate toffee finger.) The second is to recognise that, actually, in as little time as maybe half a morning β and without necessarily spending a fortune β you can pull Christmas out of the bag, even at the very last minute. Weβre here to help with the latter.β
Is it just me, or does this parenthetical aside about Saddam Hussein feel a little out of pocket in an article about last minute Christmas preparations from UKβs House & Garden?
Why is everyone trying to push caviar this holiday season? Itβs giving βlet them eat cakeβ
πΆ And itβs been a warm December and thereβs reason to believe
That next year might be hotter than the last πΆ
Kinda scary to be walking around knowing so many of you listened to thousands of minutes of Taylor Swift this year
I feel this way a lot of times but right now I miss Gawker so so much
Iβm thrilled to see more eco-friendly holiday decorations rising in popularity but the profusion of paper chains and stars and dried orange garlands across crafty social media platforms is really giving wartime rationing vibes

About once a week Iβll see this guy carrying a 6-quart Cambro of (tomato-based?) soup down the busy street, and I just think thatβs a beautiful thing

Itβs cool that people are canceling their Spotify subscriptions because theyβre running ICE ads, but then posting about it on Instagram, a platform that also runs ICE ads
Dumped a bunch of hemp seeds into my Frosted Flakes this morning, ask me for more nutrition advice~
Love to emphatically vote YES for the parks levy and basically any other social good funded with property taxes. I donβt own a house and never will, it doesnβt matter to me. You say, oh, well wonβt your landlord raise your rent? Baby, my landlord raises the rent no matter. ππΌ
Kinda crazy that no matter who is in the White House, they always manage to hire press secretaries that have literal rocks for brains
