Hi #Pedsky - I know itโs toxic, but may be a good day to login to your old twitter to share some thoughts on #HepatitisB. Need to keep engagement on this topic. Can use it as a chance to also tweet #hcwvshunger! #medtwitter
๐จ ALERT: After the 2nd deadliest pediatric flu season in 20 years with 280 child deaths mostly unvaccinated, next yearโs flu could be even worse without urgent action. Is the US ready for another pediatric flu crisis? Vaccines save lives

Mississippiโs infant mortality rate is on the rise, raising concern among doctors and public health leaders. Socioeconomic challenges and gaps in healthcare access are making this trend especially alarming.

Congrats to all! There will be long days. When the imposter syndrome kicks in, reflect on how far you have come & remind yourself that intern year is a journey of becoming. You will grow. Be humble. Be kind. Be curious. And never forget why you chose this incredible field.
7. ๐When youโre at your lowest, go to the bedside. Residency will stretch you, some days youโll feel exhausted, defeated, and unsure of everything. In those moments, go sit w/ a patient & their family. It will remind you why you chose this path, and why itโs all worth it.
6. ๐Say thank you, early and often. Build relationships. Thank the nurses, the environmental services team, your co-residents, the night float who signed out clearly, etc. Hospitals runs on teamwork and mutual respect. Gratitude/relationships build trust and carry you far.
5. ๐จCall the rapid/code. You will not ruin someoneโs life by calling a rapid response/code. If your gut says something is off, it probably is. You will never regret advocating for a patient, only staying quiet when you shouldnโt have.
4. ๐Approach every day w/ a #GrowthMindset. My class APD @lahiayemanemd.bsky.social got me this book (link at end) as a new intern. When โwrongโ or met w/ criticism, take what you learned from the moment, & continue onwards towards being the physician you aspire to. www.amazon.com/Mindset-Psyc...
3. ๐๏ธโOn my islandโฆโ. Ask for help when you need it - always. BUT, before you ask for help in clinical scenarios, ask yourself โif I was alone on my island, what would I do?โ Compare your answer w/ their answer - thatโs how you grow in clinical judgment. I *still* say this line.
2.๐ง Clinical reasoning is NOT just about making the diagnosis. Itโs about thinking through possibilities, & why some are more likely. Use data you gather in history/exam to create a tiered hypothesis. Share thoughts out loud so attendings see how you arrive at your conclusion.
1. ๐ฃ๏ธTake all advice with a grain of salt (including mine!). Everyone will be throwing advice at you to โdo it this wayโ. Be cautious of absolutists who say there is only one way to do things. Try different strategies with your work flow, and figure out what works best for you.
Happy almost July 1๐ to all the new interns starting residency ๐ฉบ๐ฅผ! I know the feeling of stress, anxiety, & excitement as you embark on this long road. Just re-sharing my thread of 7 pearls for new interns, as a former chief resident & current Peds Heme/Onc fellow. #MedSky

Pro tip for physicians or anyone in medicine whoโs moving: scrubs make the best packing material. Soft, durable, & you definitely have way too many. Give that random pair from 10+ years ago a final mission!

When I started my medical training, measles was a disease of the past - something I learned about in textbooks, not something I saw in hospital beds.
Now, children in this country are dying from measles.
This cannot become our new status quo. #vaccineswork

A ๐งต for ๐งช trainees: This is a challenging time for scientists. Many of our federal colleagues have been dismissed, grant funding is in limbo, and morale may be poor. Some of you may be questioning how your career will be affected by the upheaval our community has experienced. Don't give up. 1/5

Elon says 90% of US aid never reaches communities.
He confuses USAID's 90% reliance on intermediaries -- US companies delivering HIV drugs, WFP delivering food aid -- with waste. Comical if not so dangerous.
