… is there any way out that doesn’t demand total regime change and sweeping out the old elites that Israel, Saudis and Gulf will accept (the US has no plans, no object permanences or thoughts so we’ll leave them out of this).

Middle East folks-I think the lesson since 2000 has been if you don’t have nukes you should get one. Is there any reason to think that either Iran wouldn’t take any pause or de-escalation to do whatever they could to get one or that the Saudis/Israelis wouldn’t think that’s a danger and pause too?…

Let me tell you, this is the stuff undergraduates crave. (Seriously, I’m not being glib. They love mess)

Can we fob off some work to the corpse? Teamwork never dies and it’ll probably take the admin a while to figure it out.

I’m assuming you’re going for something public health/epidemiology related which is still pretty terrible. I just wished I focused on something like experimental archeology. Building a cathedral by hand seems relaxing compared to hoping NATO lasts till at least the week we’re supposed to cover it :)

Ugh those areas was supposed to refer to basically everywhere but central Africa, Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan. Somehow because war hasn’t occurred in China/Tawain or Korea or violence doesn’t touch US/European tourists in Latin America or Dubai, those areas get included in the peace of Europe/N Amer

We think of war as something we can choose to engage in when we want and ignore it when we don’t. This also means we take the current state of affairs as natural fact and all those pesky intl orgs are just roadblocks holding us back rather than preventing nonstop 30 year wars.

This is a big problem: We’ve convinced ourselves war simply cannot happen in those areas (despite Ukraine, the Balkans, all the dirty wars etc), or if it does, it will only happen to the poor. It was made worse but the fact that most of us had completely normal lives during the forever wars…

Texas is a long shot no matter what and if those oil prices don’t trickle down or keep dudes in work, that’s where there change might be. If oil companies are making billions while every single Raptor in the state is being solid secondhand then there could be an impact.

This is such a Beta response. Everyone knows that an unconditional surrender is totally harder and since Trump is the absolute hardest alpha anywhere that’s what he’s gonna get. It’s in the definition.

… permission to go back to the no war but the class war, and let all their -isms fly. Somehow they also never think about how when the left (center to far) does an enemy of my enemy with the right and says we’ll fight them once the current bad is gone always ends in the right triumphant.

… don’t we know they are the “real” leftists? Why are all these poors and minorities and women not giving them the deference they deserve?! Don’t we see their genius? That they are indeed the good ones?! (Nevermind why the heck there’s an Aus Bernie Stan- you don’t even go here!) and that gave them…

… except some fringe guys and they’d never be in power. Except they were wrong - true believers existed and used the irony as a Trojan horse; come on, we’re just joking! You can’t take it seriously- what you think famed leftist X is being serious too? And they were also getting their feelings hurt..

Also this article is good if you are not aware of this movement, but basically these leftists fooled themselves into believing we could do racism/misogyny ironically because, well it was the “end of history.” The basic idea was Nobody was “really” racist or fascist or homophobic anymore!…

Also a lot of people aren’t tuned in. So they don’t think about this till they have a kid, then go wow that’s a lot of shots— Is that normal? All they need is a “yeah it is” but instead we’re all used to hearing that as the start of the “just asking questions” bad faith argument.

How to Measure Public Support for Political Violence Abstract. With low but rising levels of violent political threats and violent acts by civilians in the United States, researchers increasingly want to meas

After nearly a decade measuring American public support for political violence, @nathankalmoe.bsky.social and I have published a somewhat comprehensive guide to measuring these attitudes. This includes historical comparisons and responses to common critiques. doi.org/10.1093/poq/...

Y’all it is really important you know that Tucker Carlson really believes that he has fought a literal demon.

He’s also rich as shit and has never once apologized or made amends for anything he did supporting the Patriot Act, Iraq, torture, with us or against us stuff in the 2000s.

People, Wired, Teen Vogue have consistently met the moment better than most legacy media- and considering the high quality reporting their reporters are still doing, this is all the fault of those in the C suite.

a woman with red hair is wearing a choker and earrings Alt: Kelly Rowald in the music video where she manages to send a text in excel

I explained today that in 2000s nobody was lcalling before 9 pm unless there was an emergency or sending text messages bc they were 10¢ each (which is why we all used excel instead).

Also, please join my campaign to bring back calling people posers for the low low cost of absolutely nothing but submitting yourself to this dumpster fire.

But wait— this offer isn’t limited to the USA! If you’re from one of those countries with extra vowels, try bringing back poseur instead.
