Given how dedicated @vdoozer.bsky.social, and the team behind Ted Lasso has been in addressing issues like toxic masculinity, misogyny, depression, immigration, bigotry and homophobia (among others), I truly hope to see a trans player on the speculated AFC Richmond women's team. #intersectionality

Destroying or disposing of books from once-beloved but revealed to be problematic authors could be exercising privilege.
It's good if you can gain catharsis from doing so, but please remember that others may not be able to do so.
Think about keeping them, and sitting with the discomfort instead.

Where are my #bagel fans? I ordered an everything bagel this morning, and got this.
On a scale of 1 to incendiary, how white-hot should my dissatisfaction be?

Misusing millennial slang in front of my teens is my new favourite hobby.
He had just poured a cold drink, left it on the bench while grabbing a snack. I took a small sip (dad tax ftw). When he complained, I told him it was his fault for leaving thirst traps lying around.
He was giving lowkey π€¦ββοΈ.

Have I told y'all about my husband's Fork Theory?
If I did already, pretend I didn't, I'm an old.
So the Spoon Theory is a fundamental metaphor used often in the chronic pain/ chronic illness communities to explain to non-spoonies why life is harder for them. It's super useful and we use that all the time.
But it has a corollary
You know the phrase, ""Stick a fork in me, I'm done,' right?
Well, Fork Theory is that one has a Fork Limit, that is, you can probably cope okay with one fork stuck in you, maybe two or three, but at some point you will lose your shit if one more fork happens
A fork could range from being hungry or having to pee to getting a new bill or a new diagnosis of illness. There are lots of different sizes of forks, and volume vs. quantity means that the fork limit is not absolute. I might be able to deal with 20 tiny little escargot fork annoyances, such as a hangnail or slightly suboptimal pants, but not even one "you poked my trigger on purpose because you think it's fun to see me melt down" pitchfork.
This is super relevant for neurodivergent folk. Like, you might be able to deal with your feet being cold or a tag, but not both. Hubby describes the situation as "It may seem weird that I just get up and leave the conversation to go to the bathroom, but you just dumped a new financial burden on me and I already had to pee, and going to the bathroom is the fork I can get rid of the fastest."'
like this and also like the low key point that - you may be able to cope with bigger forks by finding little ones you can remove quickly. A combination of time, focus, and reduction to small stressors that can allow you to focus on the larger stressor in a constructive way.
does this mean somewhere there is a knife theory?
Knives are traumas that require help to fix. Take a fork out and stress is reduced. Take a knife out and you better be prepared to stop the bleeding
I relate to this a lot.
Also, as I've come to understand well in recent times (and I'm aware this isn't the same for everyone), I can sometimes shake off my little forks when someone else is being stuck with a much bigger one, cos priorities. But they're still there.
What forks you up?

They are much cooler when they are accommodating to everyone's needs, despite age, race, gender, sexuality or disability.
1. Despite all of the problems which can occur with them, no sane person can argue that the world would be a better place if they were all gone. But wouldn't it be nice if they were all fully functional?

7. Sometimes in a dire situation, you could find yourself getting intimate with a really nasty one, as society tells us that a bad one is better than not having one at all.
6. If you've only experienced good, functional and clean ones, it's important to recognise that this is a privilege that few know.
5. Sometimes when they are a little broken, someone in the house can tinker with it and get it working. Sometimes they need professional help.
4. That being said, sometimes the one in your house will be broken beyond repair, and will need to be removed.
3. Despite some humble beginnings, they are evolving and getting better. Some fancy ones can even clean themselves.

Today is a special day. A day that toxic men long for, but usually fail to observe, or even think about, except on International Women's Day.
Happy International Men's Day!
Given that there is a lot to celebrate, and finite days in the year, multiple things get celebrated on the same day.
For example, today is also World Toilet Day.
And I wondered, what else do men and toilets have in common?
10. Small children may find them either scary or funny.
9. They can be pretty stinky sometimes.
8. On a night out, women will want to keep an eye out for them. They will tell their friends, or even strangers, about which ones should be avoided.
It's been a year already?

Toxic masculinity is rejection and alienation. So the opposite, what we must strive for, is acceptance and affirmation. Both of ourselves and our individual gender and sexualising identities, but of everyone else's too. #thinkingoutsidethemanbox

PONDER THISβ¦
Have you ever noticed that when shit goes down, people demand that minorities be held responsible for their entire ethnic group? White folks are exempt from that demand.
When a Black person does something bad, the entire Black community must answer for it. Why is that?

Thought for today - does a minimum wage that is considerably lower than a living wage constitute (at least morally) forced labour? Particularly where homelessness is effectively a criminal act? Likely to result in imprisonment, where inmates are subjected to forced labour?

Wayyy too many people think that prison is a place where people are sent to receive punishment, such as brutality, bad food, forced labour. GOING to prison IS the punishment. Removal of (some) liberty, that's all. Prisoners should be protected, educated, and rehabilitated. β€οΈπ
