I lack the words to capture it, but ... it's just endlessly remarkable to me that so many people in our society have chosen trans kis -- TRANS KIDS, the smallest, least significant, most vulnerable demographic slice you could possibly pick -- as a repository for all their fears & insecurities.

Seattle Neighborhood Greenways is now Seattle Streets Alliance!
After 15 years of organizing for safer streets, our work has grown far beyond neighborhood greenways.
Our new name reflects a broader mission: making every Seattle street safer and more welcoming for people who walk, bike, and roll.

Utrechter & anthropologist Bram Kalkman is a bike courier. Most of his colleagues are highly educated too. Why do people choose to be bike couriers in all weathers for little pay? What does it say about the new meaning of work?

My favorite photos of King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands are of him piloting Van Raam disability bikes. He looks so happy in all of the photos! The people he's riding with do too!
As a former airline pilot, the King really enjoys this way of serving people.

I'm always amazed at the economic vitality of Utrecht: Businesses are thriving, cafes are full, streets are clean, buses run on time.
The main street through town holds buses, service vehicles, and people -- walking, on bike & cargo bikes.
Want a city that works? Invest in people, not their cars.

I think your description of the bikes everyday bikers ride, "comfort-style bikes", explains why people choose the bikes they do here in NL. They are comfortable!
More than 2 minutes of bike bliss in Utrecht.
Cargo bikes, rental bikes, business people, people carrying flowers, people doubled up, delivery bikers and a delightful flock of school kids teasing each other @ 1:40.
Getting places by bike makes people happy and connected.

I'm very aware of chaotic public space in most other parts of the world, often car-related. There is absolutely no reason all people cannot have nice streets. We just need to figure out how to move away from cars.
