Headline and first three paragraphs from Ogdensburg Republican-Journal newspaper story
NEW YORK, Mar. 5.β€”Harry Peters, known now also as β€œGlass-in-the-eye” Peters, thirty-five, is in the state prison at Trenton, N. J., beginning a sentence of two to three years for an extraordinary series of frauds against at least thirty-three of the largest trunk lines and public service corporations in seven states.

Peters executed all his swindles in the last eighteen months. His arrest occurred January 16, after he had collected on a fraudulent claim for personal injury from the Public Service Railway company at Elizabeth, N. J.

Peter’s right eye was injured in 1922 in an accident when he was employed as a brakeman on the Philadelphia and Reading railroad. A small particle of steel became embedded in the ball. He collected substantial damages.

Headline and four paragraph story from Ogdensburg Republican-Journal newspaper.

JAMESTOWN, N. Y., March 3. β€” (AP) β€” Donald B. MacMillan, Arctic explorer, who time and again has laughed at the rigors of the frozen north, today encountered an old fashioned Chautauqua county blizzard and the laugh was on him. Bound from Utica to Jamestown to deliver a lecture at a local church, he found the snow-banks along Chautauqua Lake too much for him and was forced to remain in Westfield, thirty miles from here, over night.

MacMillan reached Westfield at 2 o’clock this afternoon. An all day blizzard had blockaded the tracks of the Jamestown, Westfield and Northwestern Railroad, an electric line and the only rail connection between Westfield and this city. The explorer engaged a motorist to drive him to Mayville, eight miles away, where he hoped to connect with the Chautauqua Traction company, but the snow was too much and he had to turn back.

Then he offered another autoist $50 to drive him to Mayville, but the driver refused. A huge plow was sent out by the Jamestown Westfield and Northwestern in hope that the line might be cleared, but it jumped the track near Midway Park and is still off the rails. All possible avenues of travel by highway are blocked.

MacMillan reported by telephone that it was the first lecture engagement that he had missed in 18 years experience.

Headline and two paragraph story from Ogdensburg Republican-Journal newspaper.

NIAGARA FALLS, March 2. β€” (A.P.) β€” Alien smugglers have found a new way of running their human cargoes into the United States. The latest route in the ice bridge forms annually just below the cataract. This unstable artery between the United States and Canada has been closed to all traffic since 1912, when the bridge broke, hurling three persons to death in the rapids below.

Last night three men crossed the bridge from Canada. Customs officials were watching, however, and two of them were taken prisoner. The third escaped back across the bridge with bullets whistling about his ears. One of the prisoners, William Free, of Toronto, is alleged to have been escorting two aliens into the United States, for which service he was collecting $35 per head. The other prisoner is David Spivak, a Pole.

Headline and three paragraph story from Ogdensburg Republican-Journal newspaper.

NEW YORK, March 1.β€”(A.P.) β€”A slander suit brought by Mrs. Lillian Agnes Stover, widow of a hotel keeper, against her alleged daughter, the Princess Elaine Vonderlipp-Lipsky, of Washington, opened today in Supreme court. Mrs. Stover is seeking $100,000 damages for a purported denial of the parentage by the princess.

Mrs. Stover testified before Justice Ingraham and a jury today that the princess was the second of three children born to her when she was the wife of John H. Betts, who ran a hotel at the South Ferry.

The suit is based on a newspaper's alleged interview with the princess, during difficulties with another member of her family, in which she denied Mrs. Stover was her mother. The princess, several years ago, sued her half-sister, Mrs. Gertrude Schroeder, for alienating the affections of her husband, Prince Nicholas Lippe-Lipsky, said to have been a page at the court of Czar Nicholas.

MALONE, Feb. 28.β€”The unusual experience of having his own saw brought back to him to be sharpened after a strange absence of seven years, fell to the lot of William McLain, 2 Shields street, a few days ago. He recognized his property by a special mark he placed upon it soon after he purchased it.

Mr. McLain visited police headquarters to report the incident to Justice Bigelow and inquire if he could seek redress. Inasmuch as the case was so long standing Justice Bigelow decided it would be useless to institute any action now. Besides McLain has the saw and nothing could be gained by prosecuting anybody.

According to McLain, he lost the saw while working on a job with other men. He suspected it was stolen. He resolved he would keep an eye out for the saw in hope some day it would turn up.

The man who brought it to him to sharpen, told him to keep it when he identified it as his property, McLain said. He claimed he bought it from a boy.

OCASIO-CORTEZ STATEMENT ON
TRUMP'S COMBAT OPERATIONS IN IRAN
"The American people are once again dragged into a war they did not want by a president who does not care about the long-term consequences of his actions. This war is unlawful. It is unnecessary. And it will be catastrophic.

"Just this week, Iran and the United States were negotiating key measures that could have staved off war. The President walked away from these discussions and chose war instead.President Trump flippantly acknowledged the possibility of American casualties, stating "that often happens in war.'

"Mr. President: this was not an inevitability. This is a deliberate choice of aggression when diplomacy and security were within reach. Stop lying to the American people.

"Violence begets violence. We learned this lesson in Iraq. We learned this lesson in Afghanistan. And we are about to learn it again in Iran. Bombs have yet to create enduring democracies in the region and this will be no different.

"In moments of war, our Constitution is unambiguous: Congress authorizes war. The President does not. I will do my part to uphold our Constitution by voting YES on Representatives Ro Khanna and Thomas Massie's War Powers Resolution. Every member of Congress must join us in rejecting this aimless war.
