The idea that imperfect victims arenβt worth defending is much bigger than me, and is something I had to speak out about.
What kind of world does it create when only some of us are deemed worthy of institutional support and safety?

The journalism @rachelgilmore.bsky.social does is so important and we should have her back.
ββ¦disabled people are actually less likely to drive than nondisabled people and more likely to get around by walking and rolling and taking transit. Car-heavy cities are also disproportionately dangerous for disabled folksβ¦ββ @nondriver.bsky.social

Did you know that (at least part of) Canada responded to a gas crisis by large-scale mode shift to mass transit? It's true!
After Via Rail took over operation of the "Dayliner", it became a very popular way to get to Halifax from the Annapolis Valley!

Anyway, extremely grateful for the individual journalists who have reached out, the Tyee which has been immensely supportive, and all of you guys β€οΈ
Iβm just a bit sad the broader institutions meant to defend press freedom in this country rarely seem to care about far-right attacks on journalism.
I will also say that itβs a bit wild to me that no press freedom organization or professional journalistic association has tried to contact me or even put out a statement here.
I mean Jesus Christ. A little solidarity from institutions would be nice here!
Oh no.... They were always busy whenever I went. It's a surprise.
The Alberta Utilities Commission has rejected a proposal for a massive rural data centre that would have consumed as much power as the city of Edmonton. It cited missing information and a lack of public consultation. thenarwhal.ca/olds-data-ce...
Just a reminder to follow actual independent journalism like @signalhfx.bsky.social, @thenarwhal.ca, @grandparade.bsky.social, and @halifaxexaminer.ca. Just a start.
A car grazed me, full body, turning right on red from Cogswell to Upper Water.I had the green man. I fell backwards. He drove on and away. That was as close as Iβve been to being hit by a car and Iβm very shaken.

WATCH: This is STILL one of the toughest truths for some to accept, but one of the most IMPORTANT β car-dependent suburbia is HEAVILY SUBSIDIZED by downtowns and urban areas!

The Tyee is proud to have published this important investigation by @rachelgilmore.bsky.social. We condemn this egregious harassment of a journalist for doing her job, and have offered support as she deals with this disturbing situation.
Took Halifax Transit to my DT destination. 6 min ride, 5 min walk. I feel fortunate, but do take this for granted. Could never have done this with my car, travel time, gas, parking; cheaper & more efficient is what transit needs to be. And got to read my book. Iβd pay more tax for more of thisβ€οΈπππ

You can impact this budget bill. Present to the Public Accounts Committee. It's your chance to tell this government face-to-face how these cruel cuts will affect you and your family.

He basically said to Halifax and other developers to smarten the hell up and stop messing around.
I am angry, because if Houston did not remove 1% of the HST and the toll removals for the bridges and Cobequid Pass, we would have the revenue to keep all of these programs for the Arts, Tourism, Culture in Nova Scotia. #NovaScotia #HoustonFail

Houston unbalanced the books with unwise tax and toll rollbacks, then used massive deficit to rationalize slashing crucial programs and public services

Which leads to a situation where the minority of council represents districts who generate massive revenue surpluses, and the majority of council represents districts who are subsidized by downtown's revenues. This sets council up to (usually) vote to loot downtown to keep taxes low

On top of that, the city's underlying financial model is not sustainable. In theory the city provides services to residents and recoups the costs for those services through taxes. But in reality large parts of the city cost more money to service than they bring in, in taxes

We could post something smart and important about artificially low municipal taxes, austerity budgets, and the economic self-destruction of too many cities β or we could just recommend that you READ AND SHARE this really important THREAD below. #UrbanTruth
Hinch: βmost of my residents have on-street parkingβ. Yeah, they do and itβs free and this wonβt change that π€―
Bear in mind that we have an Urban Forestry Masterplan that requires the replacement of not only street trees, but trees torn down through development. This was a crazy hill to die on for yet more cuts. Stop with the austerity push.
Debating bike lanes are why the core service plan couldn't be fit into to budget. Took too much staff resources to redo Morris so we couldn't do transit core service budget implementation
