Earlier today, we also bid farewell to @parthpandya.bsky.social, who has been a valued member of our team since 2022. We wish you all the very best in your post-PhD journey, Parth!

We also successfully organised three MigrantLife symposia, which gathered researchers working on #migrant #lifecourses in Europe, including their #employment, #housing and #family trajectories.

It has been a highly productive seven years, with our team members #publishing in a wide range of journals and maintaining a strong presence across various #fora and #conferences.

The MigrantLife project officially comes to an end this month! Earlier today, together with our colleagues at @phrg-standrews.bsky.social, we looked back on and celebrated our achievements—and the many people who contributed to the project’s success 🍾

@parthpandya.bsky.social showcased their fourth and final PhD chapter, which analyses various life course triggers of residential and housing tenure changes among migrants and their descendants in the UK. @migrantlife.bsky.social

Finally, a study led by @jmikolai.bsky.social looks at the link between fertility and employment changes among migrant groups in Europe. It was published in October this year 👇

Meanwhile, in a study using the German SOEP data, @ischiathere.bsky.social and Hill Kulu demonstrate that motherhood reduces women’s labor market participation across immigrant groups — but its impact is stronger for European immigrant women because they start out with higher baseline participation.

Another study led by @jharrison37.bsky.social finds persistent gaps in residential mobility and homeownership between the native population and immigrants + their descendants. @jmikolai.bsky.social @ischiathere.bsky.social @maryabedalahad.bsky.social

Using register data from France, @jharrison37.bsky.social & H. Kulu, together with I. Delaporte & A. Pailhé, find that immigrants from North Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa & their descendants are less likely to own a home & instead more likely to move to social renting compared to the native group.

Examining data from Sweden, Germany, and Switzerland, J. Lacroix, @ischiathere.bsky.social, @maryabedalahad.bsky.social, H. Kulu, together with G. Andersson, show that immigrants and refugees tend to move to urban areas following initial settlement and dispersal policy.

The final presentation was delivered by @sarahchristison.bsky.social who looked at #housing, #partnership & #fertility of immigrants & descendants in the #UK. Births were most likely for homeowners & homeownership entry is heterogenous regardless of partnership which may suggest disadvantage.
