The Canada jay isn't one of the rarities of the Sax-Zim Bog, but I've loved this bird ever since a trip to northern Vermont years ago, and have been so happy to see them in Minnesota.

They're so inquisitive and always give such a friendly vibe. #birds

Love this group! To celebrate, here is a great gray owl at sunrise. It looks very celebratory, no? #bird

It rivals the northern saw-whet in cuteness, I think.

A boreal owl rests on a stump in the afternoon sun.

What do you think: is this the most adorable owl in the US?

Meet the boreal owl! I've just been at the Sax-Zim Bog in northern Minnesota, where I was able to see two of them with my young son. More owls and other wildlife to follow from the Bog... #bird

Shot on a Nikon Z6 iii with 180-600mm lens, cropped from 600mm. I'm renting this setup for a trip to MN later this week and got some practice this weekend. Trying it out before I decide whether to make the mirrorless leap from DSLR and whether to stick with Nikon or try Sony...

Who else gets excited about an awesome bird like this brown thrasher, which isn't flashy but is *so cool* and sadly, increasingly harder to see in New England? I've never seen one in winter before, so that's also fun.

Ahh! That is so exciting! I only got to bird a little in Cuba but did manage to see the Cuban tody! Still have the book, too!

So cool! I saw these two species hunting the same field as well recently...and also saw four short-eared owls soaring together (seemed like there was some drama among them). They're so charismatic. No good photos, though. Yours looks great!

Wow, that is so cool! My husband and I (with "help" from the children) have been converting our tiny suburban yard to native plants, so I really love seeing other people's native plant gardens! We are at 70 species now, with slightly more perennials than shrubs/trees, crammed into about 2,500 sq ft.

Wonderful! I was part of a banding project for saw-whets for a bunch of years during fall migration. They were so lovely to see up close. But I haven't otherwise seen one in the wild and would love to!

Two views of a beautiful golden-crowned kinglet. They are such active little birds! I was thrilled to get a few photos in the split seconds it stayed still. #bird #borb #πŸͺΆ#birdphotography

Wonderful, and must feel great! I'm heading to Sax-Zim and worried about crowds. Thinking about just not getting Telegram so I'm not tempted to go where the owls with all the people are. Always so much more satisfying to find your own, right?!
