Does it? Spending their untaxed cash here when they do visit? What does their untaxed cash here go on? How does it benefit local economies? How does it benefit the national economy? I guess a bit of VAT. I think it is grossly unequal. I think it’s naive to think they want to settle back here too.

Obama: "We are living in a time where it can be hard to hope. Each day we wake up to some new assault on our democratic institutions. Another setback to the idea of the rule of law ... but this man - Rev. Jesse Jackson - inspires us to take a harder path ... bc if we don't step up, nobody else will"

Can you just imagine….. controlling the historical narrative, nationalistic histories and geographies. Hopefully I’ll be well gone by then. I’ll be out at 57. Early exit and do something else. Counting the days.

De-colonising the curriculum has been a long running thread at the Geography Association, it’s very cool to take the blinkers off and add some perspectives πŸ‘

My colleague that teaches Environmental Sci says we teach the most depressing subjects, it’s an effort to find silver linings in some of our topics. The end of unit specification point is β€˜oceans pose a threat to the safety of humans’ so we’ve done rubber boats, Mediterranean migrant routes and this

🀣 social mobility is one of the proposed solutions, alternatives to a life within organised crime - start them young.

Another is poacher turned gamekeeper idea, make them inf security forces protecting from piracy and pay them well.

Third is multi national & collaboration defence. US led force

Under The Hague convention, that would entail the β€œvictor”:

Protect civilians & maintain public order
Respect existing local laws
Protect property & cultural sites
Ensure food, medical care, & basic welfare
Prohibit collective punishment or reprisals against civilians

Good luck with that America…

10 years ago we used to teach that Fracking became financially viable over $65 a barrel, they would just down tools if the barrel price dropped. I don’t actually know today’s figures but… it figures.
