Today I learned that benthic ctenophores is a thing! Made me miss working with Cassiopea π₯²
I will be hiring a PhD student and a postdoc for my ANR-funded project CECIL soon, starting in January 2026. If you have experience in (marine) microbiology and microbial OMICS, and are keen to understand how sea anemone microbiomes work, please reach out! 𧫠π§¬

The Cassiosomes of Cassiopea- stinging cell structures fueled by algal symbionts.
Take a deep dive into the world of cassiosomes and their photosymbionts with @gaelletoullec.bsky.socialβs first PhD paper. These autonomous cell structures of rhizostome jellyfish could be exciting model systems to study cnidarian symbioses! π§«πͺΈπ¬ doi.org/10.1128/msph... @cpogoreutz.bsky.social
Optical coherence tomography 3D scan of a juvenile Cassiopea medusa
Ever wondered what function the white granules in Cassiopea might have? In our latest work we use OCT to investigate the micromorphology and optical properties of Cassiopea tissue, and show that white granules enhance photosynthesis of nearby symbionts.
