What have I done for #InternationalWomensDay. Well, apparently, opening a beer and 'checking-in' on Untappd has earned me a badge in honor of the day.
The beer wasn't from female owned brewery. It didn't tell female led brewery.
It was just marketing gimmick and that has really annoyed me.

My mum switched my coffees to decaf when I stayed a few days with her. Don't test your theory, it does not end well.

Give councils in England electoral reform. This could be done quickly and get people used to a fairer system making it easier to introduce at Westminster. This could be done whilst you have the commission if that is deemed necessary.

Cover of Bad Influence by CJ Wray. Slogan says "Old enought to know better...Young enough not to care". Cover has drawing of a woman in 50s red ballgown holding a champagne glass, with another woman (silhouette) sliding down the back of the dress.

Just read "Bad Influence" by CJ Wray.
Brilliant book.
I usually read murder mystery books, but this caught my eye at the library.
The story keeps you gripped, I don't often finish a book in 2 days!
I was invested in the characters and their stories.
It's definitely worth reading.

Book cover for The Darkest Evening by Ann Cleeves. Cover is a picture of a road with a solitary car and snow covered trees either side. Also a sticker saying Vera with a photo of Brenda Blethyn (who plays the character Vera in the TV show).

Just finished The Darkest Evening by Ann Cleeves. She never disappoints. A great read from start to finish. Never guess the ending and this was no different. I find that with her books you can really imagine the characters and understand their motives as they develop throughout the book.

And as this is fesshole, I need to point out that isn't a euphemism!

The Local parties need to work very hard on their Get the Vote Out strategy. You're right low turnout will help reform, so other parties need to put in the effort, but it's not a forgone conclusion if they can adapt usual strategies for new circumstances.

Don't often disagree with what you write, but here I do. Unlikely timescale will stick (hasn't so far). But even if it does, some councils (and Gov asked them if they wanted to delay) new boundary authority wouldn't take over services until April 29. So those elected in May will still serve 3 yrs.

Just Finished No Cure For Love by Peter Robinson.
Good book. Bit of a slow start, as didn't relate to characters, but after about a third it started motoring. Read a few of Peter Robinson's DI Banks novels and wanted to read one of his different books. it didn't disappoint.

Just finished The Night Shift by Robert Enright. Recommended by colleague. A little too 'one man, good intentions, loner, fights crime, lots of guns & ex-army" for me. British Jack Reacher. Once it got going, was OK, but would have liked a bit more intelligence & puzzles and less guns.

The Christmas Appeal by Janice Hallett.
Very quick read, started it yesterday and not reading constantly. Didn't find it was good as others by her. Entertaining enough, but not enthralling. #bookreview

Next book in the DCI Banks series finished. Past Reason Hated by Peter Robinson.
Series is all very similar, but the twists & turns in the investigations make it a good read. Written in the late 80's, but amount of drinking & smoking whilst on duty by police is shocking!

My final report after 6th form from my tutor said "I wish Liz the best for the future, but fear for the worse". That was it, so I feel that it maybe OP was correct.

I've said for a long time we need STV in councils in England first, then we can look at Westminster.
Please pressure Government to introduce this as a stepping stone to all elections.

Just finished The Hanging Valley by Peter Robinson. Took about 2 days.
Good standard crime fiction. Less a twist at the end and more solid plot moving along nicely.

Poster of a black and white drawing of an otter wearing a tie and "Steve" name badge holding a mug. Set in an office with books, notes and computer screen.
Underneath it says:
"Do not seize the day. That only startles it, and nobody wants to deal with an aggressive day before coffee. Approach it slowly. Avoid eye contact. Maybe offer a polite nod. Act casual. If the day growls, starts making demands, or mentions shenanigans, back away quietly and return to bed.

This will be my motto for 2026. Don't startle the day by seizing it, have a coffee and approach it slowly.

A good police murder story. Lots of competing lines, with various police officers so found that a bit confusing as read over more than a week. Came together satisfyingly at the end, if a bit gung-ho from key police.

Never liked Brussels sprouts. Decided today (Turkey dinner was boxing day as 3 birds yesterday with normal roast sides) to try what people say about roasting with bacon and garlic oil. Threw in some carrots as well. It was great. I'm gonna definitely do that again.

Recent family wedding, bride looking beautiful in deep blue & lace full dress. Pulled wedding ring from a pocket! I was so shocked, I actually said out loud "It's got pockets". Correct but probably not what the guests wanted to hear during the ceremony.
Apparently bride had the pockets sewn in.
