I'm for residential parking permits, just at the same price restaurants have to pay for outdoor dining in the same space. Currently ~$7k/year.

Every other block in the city makes due with cars only on the avenues. Seems like we could just fully pedestrianize the whole of Broadway between Union Square and Columbus Circle in one go and be done in 2026.

Hardening protection on the avenue cross-overs like this is good though.

Souzzi might have been the best we could do in early 2024, but two years in it's clear he's not the right candidate to oppose the Trump regime in DC. Elect a fighter!

πŸ‘€The federal judges in West Virginia, where ICE has been pulling over and detaining people on the freeway, are literally screaming about ICE's tactics.

"It is an assault on the constitutional order," Judge Goodwin says. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

If LEO can push you to the ground and throw you in the back of their rental car without any warrant, use of force restrictions, or cause, then there's nothing distinguishing them from kidnappers regardless of what clothing they wear. Solution is to stop LEO from engaging in such behavior.

Yeah, there's some things to like here, but we can't just lock in stasis on housing - that's the core of everything: doesn't really matter if you have childcare if you can't move our of your studio, minimum wage of $30 is good but not if still rent burdened at $1600/month. Not to mention census!

Is Delgado really the guy? I have my complaints about Hochul, but his priorities don't seem like they're addressing her shortcomings. Most prominently, his housing priorities page doesn't have a single goal about increasing housing supply, and he doesn't even mention transportation or education.

In the midst of ICE horror, the Senate needs to prohibit Trump from using ICE as a voter suppression tool. Senate Dems need to put into the approps bill a prohibition on ICE agents being near polling places. This is a must have.
Last chance to do this.

Different people take inspiration from different framings. For one person, incremental success builds momentum and their sense of progress. For another, it takes wind out of their sails and saps motivation. I'm definitely in the latter camp, so I don't read this as defeatism, but as motivation.

🚨 New York is now set to lose TWO congressional seats. Texas and Florida will both gain 4.

That's because they're building homes, and we're not.

With our democracy at stake, we cannot afford for blue states to lose any more seats. New York must build more housing.

I think it's precisely because liberal democracies benefit from their network effect that fascist efforts support one another - they know that every country to fall out of alignment reduces that global network effect

ICE murdered RenΓ©e Good in broad daylight. Less than 3 weeks later, they killed Alex Pretti, shooting him 10 times. Every day, we watch as people are ripped from their cars, their homes, their lives.

We can't allow ourselves to look away from this cruelty. Abolish ICE.
