"surely the third democratic presidency to come to power after a norm-breaking and warcrime-cheering Republican administration will pursue justice against their predecessors," I repeat like a mantra til I collapse

Every time a woman runs for president I hear that she’s too emotional and unstable to make wartime decisions, unlike the men in charge who make really reasonable decisions like bombing kids to death, starting water wars, and poisoning the entire planet

If you don't immediately and forcefully start arguing for your position on a wedge issue, Republicans will hammer away at the wedge until it hurts you the second you concede their argument.

The original bill had nothing to do with trans people. It is a federal electoral powergrab.

But all of the Dem moderates who've been talking this past year about moderating on trans issues walked right into this trap.

Congrats.

They added the trans stuff so that they can call Dems who vote against it extreme on trans issues.

Historians are quite capable of explaining the hellscape that is the US at this particular minute, and its kind of telling that you imagine we won't because it means you haven't been listening or reading

Hitting desalination plants is so bad. Not just evil but strategically incomprehensible. Without desalination 75% of the entire population of the Middle East will be refugees. Israel and Kuwait depend on desalination for 90% of their water and other Middle East states aren’t far behind.

Hard to hit the streets and overthrow the government when your alleged allies have made it literally too toxic to go outside and destroyed your fragile water sources.

Real galaxy brain thinking there, boys.

Insisting on a world that is shrunk down to a spectrum of things you're comfortable talking to your kids about isn't just lazy and entitled, it's profoundly unrealistic. Children have questions. Many of them are going to be uncomfortable. Deal with it or don't have kids.

NBC - Two arrested and two IEDs seized as right wingers hold an anti-Islam demo outside Gracie Mansion today during Ramadan. Not immediately known if Mayor Mamdani was home.

Two people in custody after 'suspicious devices' found outside NYC mayor's official residence The anti-Islam protest was led by right-wing influencer Jake Lang. It's not clear whether New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani was in Gracie Mansion at the time.

Happy to know that our Mayor and First Lady are safe, but horrified that there was such a disturbing threat of violence outside their residence.

Vile displays of Islamophobia will never be tolerated in our city.

if you leave out the regrettable error where we blew up a school and vaporized dozens of children, American military operations have been flawless... for the most part, flawless

there's so much bad in the world but there's also people who lift up and carry an elderly bat around every day so he can pretend he's flying again, and that's the part of the world I think is worth fighting for

The South ending Reconstruction and plunging their populations into a backward looking culture and economy until it was forced to modernize by the Civil Rights movement is imo a very clean parallel.

I will never believe we're cooked. But I do think that a lot of leftists who consume a ton of social media need to ask how and why they end up repeating lightly laundered far-right discourse.

Let’s talk about Graham Platner’s Big Lie, finally. In 2009, at the height of the Gulf War, the Marines barred him from active duty. Platner claims it was his forearm tattoos. But his one forbidden tattoo was the Nazi symbol on his chest. He knew - and he left the Marines rather than give it up. 1/

It's hilarious that "working class" now applies exclusively to the racist failsons of regional car dealership owners but every unemployed trans person is an "elite".

I love the weaselry of "well even if he's not working class, he's worked WITH working class people, which is LIKE being working class"--like anyone who has working class people working at the company he owns could, theoretically, be "working class." Probably the school had a working-class custodian!

Hotchkiss, the Connecticut Prep School, Platner attended, is for rich kids, and always been for rich kids. I had some friends who attended the local prep school near where I grew up (Berkshire School). I would not consider Hotchkiss to be the type of New England Private school Grim describes.

The headline is great. Almost like all these good kids were sitting around being wholesome, and slurs started snapping and cartwheeling like it was Westside Story and overwhelmed the youths.

People will yell at you because they want to. I have been blocking people for years for yelling at me over things I never said or did. People have unlimited strangers on here to treat as proxies for everything that's wounded them. You don't have to engage with that.
