NYC Bird Alliance has a program called Project Safe Flight where they count dead birds on the sidewalk during migration. Their estimate is that 230,000 birds are killed each year by windows in NYC. I believe 1 WTC is the biggest culprit.

I go birdwatching a few times a week and almost never see dead birds. I saw three dead geese last weekend. The consensus in the birding community is bird flu.

There are usually a few overwintering Golden-crowned Kinglets in my area, but I haven’t seen any yet this year. I’m hoping to see a migrant within the next few weeks.

My wife and I looked at houses that had separate mosquito control district and library district taxes. The house next door was in the same town, but in a different district and therefore had a different tax rate!
My entire neighborhood is covered in black ice. My son almost fell at a crosswalk. We watched his friend eat it just outside the school. My brother said he saw someone being loaded into an ambulance on the way to the train.
I only get a bad tap on a bus about 10% of the time, but if I get two bad taps in a row, the driver just waves me on to avoid delaying boarding.
I’d just buy beaters and crash them into telephone poles until they build a subway to my front door.
