I find it bleakly amusing when commentators remark on how “even doctors” say people are overdiagnosed with mental illness etc. As if the medical profession hasn’t repeatedly been at the forefront of dismissing and gaslighting disabled patients, especially women. Wildly ignorant.

In my recollection voting for far right in Europe began when left and center parties gave up on public services and living standards and began to dismantle public services and welfare provisions as "unaffordable". Foreigners were depicted as a reason that things had become unaffordable.
The reality of claiming PIP: a 🧵
1) To claim PIP you have to describe in excruciating detail all the ways you cannot function. This means that you are forced to think in very detailed terms exactly how disabled you are, which often has a devastating effect on the mental health of the applicant 1/?
Councils habitually talk about a “placement market” - effectively, a market in children and young people in care
Tens of thousands of people will be hit by “knock-on impact” of PIP cuts. Unpaid carers face losing carer’s allowance if their family member loses eligibility for disability benefits - a devastating double loss.

At the heart of every attack on disability benefits is the myth disabled people “get perks”: a free car, loads of cash, a life off work. It misrepresents the reality of disability, whilst exploiting low wages and high living costs to make the public envy people in daily pain.
Austerity with a red rosette is not the “change” people voted for.
Drastic cuts to PIP will affect as many as 1 million disabled and ill people, pushing them into severe hardship, worsening physical and mental health, and isolation. There is no credible argument for pulling help from people shouldering the high costs of disability. Cruelty dressed up as reform.

Apart from the fact "scientific" is really a euphemism for eugenicist here, the current (also eugenicist) reality of age assessments is that many people are wrongly assessed as *older* than they are, for entirely racist reasons. This is not about "science" or accuracy, it's about racist exclusion.
UK military is simply unable to manage significant increase in budget without huge cost overruns and waste. Story of the next decade will be billions of pounds disappearing into a deep black hole.

‘Working class’ does not stand in for white working class men. There are women, queers, transfolks and non-white communities in the category of working class. It’s a tendentious overreach to make the analytic signify white men.
