NYT headline: As Trump Out-Putins Putin, Russia's Global Influence Erodes
Text from the article: An American president pursuing foreign heads of state in their homes and offices, unchecked by Congress, has also flipped the script on Mr. Putin, who has made his appetite for risk, willingness to use force and unpredictability central to his coercive power in the world. "Now he's no longer the baddest guy in town," said Bobo Lo, a Russia analyst and former Australian diplomat in Moscow. "He no longer is able to strike fear in the way that he had hoped. That mantle has gone over to Trump," Mr. Lo said. "And so Putin looks, in a way, a little bit pathetic."
New York Times: Yee-HAW! There’s a new sheriff in town!
Also not to be that guy but well-respected international media is falling for incel psyops and it’s pretty cringe
I know the US government is run by twelve year old incels but I really expected more from their psyops than ”Kurds are our bitches and they gonna do our bidding we talked to them ten minutes ago and they are ready to go”
"Anthony Downey, in what he calls an ‘occupation of the future’ in the Middle East, writes: ‘This ambition to “see further” supports the neo-colonial ambition to see that which cannot be seen – or that which can only be seen through the algorithmic gaze and its rationalization of future realities.’"
Reading @mollycrabapple.bsky.social’s new book (out in a few weeks) helped a lot this morning:

Verkligen ett litet mästerverk det där
As of tonight, licenses of trans people across Kansas are being invalidated en masse, enabling the overnight criminalization of an entire group of people for going about our lives. It’s often said you never know when you’re living through history, so let me assure you: that’s what’s happening now.

Fascinerande!
I think that the more important element is ”I thought this was fake” (thus addressing one’s initial take) ”but I checked it out”, kind of short-circuits one’s own process for finding stuff out.
But yes that it is posted by a legit human being and non anon bot helps of course
This is a really interesting psychological experiment. Everyone with eyes can see this is an AI-generated image. An IMDb-search will show no such project is in the works.
And yet: because Mike here (an actual critic!) claims he looked into it and its real, our critical faculties are bypassed.
Since everyone is (sigh) debating if writers benefit from reading books, I dissected a passage shared as “evidence” that non-readers can write great prose: countercraft.substack.com/p/what-not-r...
Tim Roth’s The War Zone. It’s a good film, it takes its subject matter seriously. But yeah, never again.
