βWhen communities have a need, they know that the local branch library, whether in Sunset Park, Brownsville, or Sheepshead Bay, will be there for them. They know that we go way beyond books and computers.β
βEach Cycle Alliance program is tailored to the community it serves,β Kearns-White says. βSome are called Period Pantries, but others are called Care Pantries because they also stock adult diapers, deodorant, lotion, baby diapers, or pull-up pants for toddlers.β www.sunsetpost.org/en/stories/c...
In Gaza, Israel and Biden normalized war crimes beyond anything we have seen before.
And now, Israel and Trump are using that model against Iranian civilians.
At least 13 hospitals and health facilities hit during attacks on Iran, WHO says

Love the real utopias concept in this. Libraries are a real utopia that we have now. Reminds me of Martin Sostre's take on prefigurative politics, a "microcosm of the society that we're trying to build. Something concrete to show the people instead of just rhetoric." www.akpress.org/a-continuous...
I see the made-up job Trump says he's giving Noem as being on par with his claim that "Elon's not going anywhere" during Musk's farewell presser at the WH. Trump doesn't want parallels drawn to his frequent firings of underlings during his first administration, so he acts like everything's chill.
Great explainer on the problem of ebook pricing for libraries.

So ChatGPT tells people to kill themselves, and OpenAI's response is to shift responsibility to unpaid, untrained, non-professional friends and family members.
So if you get designated as the "trusted contact," you're doing terrifying unpaid work for this evil company.
Shut it all down.
Glad people are settling on the term "pervert glasses". Bonus points if you also say it while posting a picture of Mark Zuckerberg or call them Mark Zuckerberg's pervert glasses.
On March 10, we're going to Albany to tell Gov. Hochul: DEFEND NY, FUND OUR FUTURE!
In a time of crisis, we need bold action to protect immigrants, make polluters pay, and tax the rich!

On Jan. 30, @governor.ny.gov proposed banning 287(g) agreements between local law enforcement & ICE.
But that alone wonβt shield NYers from a mass deportation agenda.
The New York for All Act (#NY4All) would stop local + state resources from fueling family separation.

WANT TO SUPPORT NYC LIBRARIES?
Testify over zoom, in person, or simply submit written testimony for next week's preliminary budget city council meeting. Here's how you can do that!

It's very easy for me to relate to that last repost, as I likewise hate the regime I live under, and would like to see it fall, but also don't want to be bombed. Seems straightforward as hell to me.
Iranian here. The loudest voices in the room do not represent all of our voices. You can be against the regime AND not want a war.
This isnβt an isolated thing either. Itβs coming from the U.S. State Dept and impacts public libraries whose legal basis is as a nonprofit. Thatβs the third most common legal basis for library systems in the U.S. More common than county-based systems. www.seattletimes.com/nation-world...
I don't care if Congress authorizes War on Iran. NO WAR ON IRAN. I want people to fucking reclaim their morality.
Truly dystopic.
"we are witnessing the fullest expression of the most inhumane weapons of the century: Autonomous bombs and missiles. Their βautonomyβ refers to fact that humans need not be in the loop in any meaningful way when deciding where to target or whether to launch such weapons."
It's genuinely insane that many of the newspaper columnists who cheered us into the war in Iraq are still employed at big legacy outlets cheering us into a new war with Iran.
As proud as Iβve ever been to be a member of the @amlibraryassoc.bsky.social!!
