When overdose deaths drop, politicians are quick to claim their policies are working.
Another explanation: the population at risk can shrink after years of mass fatalities. When thousands of people die during a toxic drug crisis, fewer people remain in the statistics.

The government of Alberta is arguing for safe supply - of nicotine pouches - correctly, sleeting that products from the illegal and unregulated market should not be harder to buy than see supply.

Dropping a man off at treatment today in Bonnyville. His lungs are in bad shape. Smoking crack cocaine for over 30 years has caused this. He also has cancer and is likely to be dead in a year. But he wants to pass sober and in good spirits. I am wishing him well. A very nice man.
