This is what makes the opposition to traffic calming so infuriating.
If we're going to force everyone to drive, it should at least be safe.

No executive branch candidates but a local rising star in New Haven, Alder Caroline Tanbee Smith. This stuff is important.
Henceforth, I will be describing the way that U.S. menβs hockey spectacularly squandered good will, brand recognition, and fan loyalty as βpulled a Target.β
They pulled a Target.
People Friendly Stamford is such a great org.
Something Iβve been thinking about: in my perfect world, transit agencies and towns are shoveling sidewalks and bus stops.
But thereβs also a role for civic and community engagement here, just like PFS is doing.

The article has so many insane NIMBY hyperboles. Itβs a piece of planning history. Comparing townhomes to Los Angeles (which is known for single family homes?), some random mention of cancer risk. Amazing stuff
This is a must-read about NIMBYism. Planners and YIMBY advocates alike could benefit from reading it. Another key piece profiling the same person is Laura Bliss' "The NIMBY principle" in Bloomberg

If they follow the same protocol as the Hartford Line, then there is the train operator and one conductor per 3 car set. Thatβs pretty lean. Plus the conductors are all amazing humans.

That development is happening. New London, Clinton, Guilford, Westbrook, and Branford all have housing being built. I think that was held up as a metric to get funding for SLE restored. If I were an elected from that part of the state, I'd be frustrated at the lack of clarity and moving goal posts.
At GOPC, we are big advocates for a fully integrated & multi-modal transportation network that is nimble, safe, & reliable for users of all modes.
Our friends at Toole Design have put together a great post about why bike lanes & sidewalks are good for drivers too!
It is there. Has it not been open/functional?
$300m for these trains, plus a $500m TOD development underway for the SLE, and we're going to throw it all away for $8.8m a year in operation savings. Which will take approximately 100 years to net back. Absolute craziness -- www.railjournal.com/regions/nort...
Anyway, last post b/c being irritated about Shore Line East is one of my least favorite ways to expend transit advocacy energy. In the last @ct-ptc.bsky.social meeting with CTDOT, the agency shared that they did not make any service improvements with the $$ allocated in the budget last year. π€·ββοΈ

I was there for the big, splashy M8 debut. Iβve been trying to figure out what is driving this relentless desire to kill the line since then.
Here is the whole CTDOT presentation: drive.google.com/file/d/1Q6iT...
When there was more service, ridership was higher. Legislators were told that to increase service back to pre-covid levels, they needed to get more housing around stations. That is happening. What we are seeing now, after the M8 investment, feels like gaslighting by the administration.
On Amtrak how? The state has cut service for years.
Oh interesting and yes, they certainly are in CT
This type of walkable, mixed-use urbanism is illegal to build in almost all of Connecticut
Raise your hand if you β¨alsoβ¨ spent the latter half of the week thinking about the forecasted CT Special Transportation Fund Fiscal Cliff π€ΈββοΈπ³οΈ (oh my god youπ«΅ are such a nerd! let's be friends.)
Happy Friday fellow Bostonians! There's a survey from @boston.gov on "curb use". If you have opinions on things like double parking or blocked bike lanes this is your opportunity to give feedback
I said they need more 15 min pickup spaces + ticketing from 311 π

Trumbull is debating updating its sidewalk ordinances, and Iβm doing a bunch of the research.
Thereβs talk of βgrandfathering inβ current property owners so they only take over shoveling after the propertyβs sold.
This seems like a logistical nightmareβhas anyone heard of this elsewhere?
I feel like this is the space where People for Bikes was meant to shine. The website doesn't have much in the way of new content. Any idea what happened there?

One of his best speeches, TBH. This is going to be a fun gubernatorial election season. #CTPolitics
Governor Lamont's budget includes for buses" $3.5 million β Including $2.5 million in DOT to reduce bus fares for students and veterans by up to 50% and $1.0 million in DVA to provide free bus passes for veterans." π
