"With what amounts to civil war raging in the United States, we desperately need clear, fearless truth-telling that doesn’t pull its punches and doesn’t hand a megaphone to lies and propaganda in the name of supposed fairness."

Is it so hard for journalists to clearly state that the Trump administration is lying?" Margaret Sullivan in Editor & Publisher www.editorandpublisher.com @sulliview.bsky.social

It really is a little disappointing to see so much Tolkien-related imagery (by artists who are obviously very talented) that is, in essence, screen-grabbed from the Jackson films.
Back in 2012, this painting helped me get into the holiday spirit. Today on Substack, I'm sharing the process behind WINTER'S GLOW, hoping you find the same inspiration.

As someone on SSDI I can't tell you how it hurts to listen to people speak about Social Security and Medicare but fail to mention the populations who subsist on these programs:
Seniors: 77.8%
Survivors: 11.2%
People w/Disabilities: 11%
It's very crucial in our messaging to ensure EVERYONE is seen.
My best horror of 2024 list is up at @nytimes.com! This list could’ve easily been 100 books long. What a year. Anyway, free article, so feel free to share!

Proud and honored to have a poem in one of the premier anthologies of Speculative Poetry. “She’s a Survivor “ is a result of teaching the myth of Perseus and Medusa myth in middle school ELA.
You don’t have to be coy here. When you mean “Jews,” say “Jews.”
This is 30% off. Took me a year to write it. I opened up old wounds to get it done. Support real writers while tech bros threaten to publish thousands of AI “books” next year.

We're only halfway through Native American Heritage Month, so there's still plenty of time for you to read one of our many titles by and about indigenous people, including @sgj.bsky.social, @morgantalty.bsky.social, Joy Harjo, and Ned Blackhawk. Not that you shouldn't be doing that every month.
The cover for CAPTAIN AMERICA issue 230 by Ron Wilson and Bob Layton (I do not know the color artist) featuring a medium closeup of Captain America holding up his shield in a desperate attempt to protect himself from the massive Hulk fist pounding down on it. Sparks fly. It is side by side with the movie poster for CAPTAIN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD featuring a medium closeup of Howard Mackie’s Captain America holding up his shield in a desperate attempt to protect himself from the massive Red Hulk fist pounding down on it. Sparks fly.
I’m not asking for much. I just think comic artists should be credited. I think audiences would really dig the acknowledgement too. Money would be nice, obviously, but just some credit would go miles.
A reminder to people that independent bookshops that are coming to here from Twitter are taking a financial risk as that social media outlet is a major factor in marketing and getting sales.
Hey, House of Bone and Rain is a Goodreads Choice Award nominee! Please go vote on this first round. I say we make this the year a boricua takes it home. 🇵🇷

lol. You lose .
Yes. This.
That’s the kind of attitude that disappears the disabled.
As a literacy education professional, I say WRITE THAT BOOK! The classroom teacher, librarian or (gasp) parent/guardian/caretaker in each child’s life is best situated to assess whether the time is right. And we NEED more disability-aware books for our kids.
