I don't know if this makes me hopeful or terrified
I don't know if this makes me hopeful or terrified
Insurance denied my patients semaglutide yesterday and suggested they use deferasirox instead in the denial letter so everything is going great.
Insurance denied my patients Wegovy PA with a letter saying the patient should use their preferred alternative of deferasirox instead.
That's a lot of iron the patient is going to have to poop out
By far the medication I have to do the most convincing to have someone take.
Same.
Although I did just change the ER tabs recently for someone getting irritation when it came out of their ostomy.
I think this cured my imposter syndrome
Mine is from the paper though!
This is their least convincing argument:
" First, the FDA has never been perfect, and even with a default requirement of two trials, the FDA has approved numerous products that were later found to have serious safety concerns or lack efficacy."
Some of the drugs on there are truly wild.
I didn't even know brandname Lopid even still existed
Meanwhile I can't bill for my patient visits but Medicare will still pay for acupuncture and chiropractor adjustments
Yea the idea that the current model of community pharmacy supports this at all seems so far fetched
Yay for someone writing about this.
Although I feel like it leaves out us in ambulatory care.

I've heard patients allude to this.
The only real case of this I can think of is that influenza vaccination rates are a HEDIS measure so I guess that's an incentive for flu?
Had a patient ask if they should be worried about using an er potassium tablet while on Zepbound.
Is that a an actual consideration for anyone from a slowed gastric emptying standpoint or just a "theoretical" concerm ?

I think about this too often.
I also wonder if the "baby" aspirin impacts people's perception of risks when I compare it to people's thoughts about statins.
Meaning that I wonder if I said, "oh this is just a baby lipitor" I'd get more buy-in from patients.
My library gives free nyt games subscriptions now and you can make your own wordle!
But drug names on not in the dictionary so any hope of med wordle is lost

All we talk about at work is how little the public knows about how bad it is now... Or how much worse it's going to get.
Friendly reminder for everyone
Does anyone in #pharmsky understand what all these stories about Medicare negotiating drug prices for Eliquis, jardiance, etc?
Is it changing the copays for Medicare patients, or just the "list price"?
I've had three older patients in the last few months fall for the deep fake videos of Dr Gupta hawking memory supplements.
Two I only caught during a more in depth med Rec and got them to bring it up.
Are other people seeing this?

Watching the ridiculous Red One on Amazon prime after watching Rudolph with the kids and I can't get over how much better of a Santa J.K Simmons is than in Rudolph
I think about this all the time. I see it's use cases in medicine, even just in making doctor's notes better.
I just am skeptical that outweighs all the negatives, even with misinformation spreading alone.

I'm pretty sure I had years where I had both mandatory implicit bias training and mandatory "old people are scared of technology" training
Team #RxHunger got enough donations yesterday to bring us to $2424, but there are a lot of people in #PharmSky who haven't participated yet. Addressing food insecurity when it is at such unprecedented levels in the US and around the world will take everyone who can give.
Many orgs have matching $!
Now I'm stuck thinking about this again. Caught COVID over Thanksgiving and since I'm not eligible for the vaccine anymore now I'm stuck paying for a drug that costs $1,500 which is absurd in its own way
Thanks for the reminder. Just donated.

I think about this constantly. I know the tech was celebrated with a Nobel prize but in the pop culture zeitgeist that there is so much animosity towards it just baffles me.
This was such a spectacular achievement in such a short time.
