Arfon Haines Davies announcing in front of a mysterious street.
Any of my HTV-watching chums know where Arfon's background pic is? A colleague is on a mission to find out.

Spitting Image
TV listing A Topical comedy sketch show with hideously cruel caricatures of the 80 most important personalities in the world. An extremly impertinent attack on the sort of people usually remote from real criticism.
#OnThisDay 1984 : The first edition of Spitting Image was broadcast on ITV.
The original run lasted until 1996 but saw a comeback on #Britbox in 2020 for two series.
Any favourite moments, caricatures?

Every episode of "Interceptor" in one handy playlist, courtesy of "Lara Croft". She really digs up treasure.
You're welcome. www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...
BBC2 off-air of the Alexei Sayle episode from "Comic Roots". Aired 26th Aug 1983 and repeated twice more since (far as I can tell, once in 1984 and again in 1991). This seems to be a betamax transfer from the original broadcast. Lovely! www.youtube.com/watch?v=rstb...
I find this rare Young Ones publicity photo of the infamous Fifth Housemate more unsettling than the brief glimpses we get of them on screen. It's the fact that this mysterious ghostly presence is out there front and centre, *staring* at us. Brrrr.
I've started a new site where I'll be writing periodically about TV, films, music and the like.
To begin with, ahead of the 100th anniversary of his birth: Kenneth Williams and 1980s television - a story of commitment, triumph and upholstery.

I have only just this evening realised that the Smarties in the slogan doesn't refer to the product.

People and their programmes - Roy Clarke. The Stage and Television Today (17th February 1977)
Logo for the BBC adaptation of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, vector art recreation by me.
Vector recreation of the third 2000 AD logo introduced in 1980 and used until 1987
The original Red Dwarf logo. Simple, but one of my favourites. This is how it looked on the cover of the first book, 'Infinity Welcomes Careful Drivers'.
Recreation of the TV Zone magazine logo, one of the lesser British SF magazines, but still one I had a lot of fondness for. Ahh, the days before the internet. How ever did we survive?
Four British sci-fi logos that I've recreated.
(Also, happy 38th anniversary to Red Dwarf yesterday!)

40 YEARS AGO TODAY: Renwick and Marshall turn their attentions to the tabloid circulation war in Hot Metal, casting Robert Hardy as a Murdoch/Maxwell figure and also as the downmarket new editor, replacing the by-the-book Geoffrey Palmer.
One of the darkest and most satirical sketch comedy series the BBC has ever created. Monkey Dust pushed the boat out in all aspects of TV, running for 3 series from 2003.

Watch Rik Mayall, all made up as Rik from the Young Ones, but with a normal voice and facial expressions. Here you see just how heavy a performance "Rik" was www.youtube.com/shorts/2MbwY...
Spaghetti Hoops, by their very definition, cannot be spaghetti. At best they're Sliced Penne.
Watching the most recent Alan Partridge series, I idly wondered if all the news reported in The Day Today canonically occurred in the Partridgeverse, and if the events of Brass Eye are included, and if so did Noel Edmonds' career survive him shooting Clive Anderson, since he's still Alan's nemesis?
The first episode of Grange Hill was broadcast on this day in 1978. Created by Phil Redmond, the series ran for a total of 601 episodes, finally closing its doors in 2008.
