Fleshing out designs through fanart tend to always help a character feel more likeable, The starters felt super plain and kinda lifeless at first but seeing more of them is definitely helping at least for me, now I'm just hoping their evolutions make them feel more complete :p

Seeing more fanart of the new starters has changed my opinion a bit, I think Gecqua's my favorite with Pombon as a tentative second :p

I think that's what's getting to me about them, like they don't look *bad* but they look a little plain in the way that a lot of fakemon do, it feels underwhelming
