Beautiful! Where are the deep-sea mussels from and what is the species living in the mussel bed?
A deep ocean cold seep community with mussels, tube worms, shrimp, purple, sea cucumber, squat lobster, and white sea anemone.
Cold seep community painting- I was thinking this would make a nice back cover for the book. My fav is the anemone because itโs so dramatic and was fun to paint. 16x20 acrylic on canvas

Climate change in the polar regions of our warming world is threatening to transform many of its features, such as this icy tableau in the Fish Islands off the coast of the Antarctic Peninsula. There is still much to learn about these places before we know better what those changes may be.
A new special issue of Science highlights research on Earthโs frozen placesโfrom the Arctic to the Antarcticโand how itโs changing due to climate change and the geopolitical challenges this important work faces.

Interesting to note that many of these adaptations come with the loss of the arbuscular mycorrhizal symbiosis. In a way these lineages have rediced their ability to deal with the surrounding iotic environment (or evolved alternative ways to do so).
Whoa! When a large language of life model generates a protein equivalent to ~500 million years of evolution.
