Irish Data Protection Commission was asked today in Committee: have you ever taken a GDPR decision on Google?

Answer... No.

Ireland is responsible for supervising Google's data use across the whole EU. It has produced no decisions.

Kudos @sineadgibney.bsky.social for asking the question.

It’s unacceptable for the government to walk back their commitments when there are so many people waiting months and years for elective procedures.

Anything less would be a token gesture, and a far cry from the radical reorientation of healthcare envisioned under Sláintecare. In Galway, we have some of the longest waiting lists in the country for this kind of care.

This is a betrayal of the people of Galway by this government. The Minister for Health must urgently make good on previous commitments and deliver an elective-only hospital for Galway, not a slightly enlarged hub.

Absolutely scandalous that the government appears to be rowing back on committments to an elective hospital in Merlin Park. Here in Galway we have some of the longest wait lists in the country for elective procedures. These facilities are not an optional add on, they provide vital care.

Bhí an pholaitíocht i gcónaí mórthimpeall ar @socialmide.bsky.social

Ach níl na fadhbanna i gConamara faighte níos fearr.

Tá na fadhbanna ó thaobh tithíocht, iompar, agus cursaí sláinte faighte níos measa.

Reform of free civil legal aid system ‘frustratingly slow’, says Chief Justice Minister for Justice unable to comment on timeline for presenting Government with new proposals

Ireland: Chief Justice Donal O’Donnell said the remark that justice was open to all like the Ritz Hotel endures because “it captures a fundamental and persistent challenge”, that “justice may be formally open, but practically inaccessible”.

No, people are asking the app to make the images.

I know it’s not the same. But Simon Harris gave several interviews over the Christmas where he spoke about the impact online abuse has had on him and his family. We have Jim O’Callaghan looking for digital i.d’s. So to see this CSAM obfuscation is pretty informative and infuriating.

I would have thought condemning an company producing child abuse material on an industrial scale for profit would be an easy one. But here were are.

The Dublin and Kilkenny camogie players should be commended for the stand they took yesterday.

I can’t believe this is a conversation we need to have in 2025.

Prison overcrowding can't be solved by increasing prison capacity alone.

We need to see massive investment in community outreach, community policing, and an emphasis on rehabilitation.

Deeply concerning line in the PfG. In a context where those seeking asylum already face restrictions to their movements one has to wonder how close the new government intends to move to a system that looks more like detention of asylum seekers.
