Mary Walsh, a name almost no one outside journalism knows, is one of the most significant and righteous truthfighters out there! Her departure is a five alarm fire.
It brings me an incredible sense of peace to imagine the fear and feeling of walls closing in for men who abused women and girls with elite impunity
I donβt know who needs to hear this but listening to an audio book absolutely counts as βreadingβ a book.
In fact, Iβd argue that listening to an author read their own work aloud is an exceptionally magical and even holy experience.
I love it so much. Especially as my eyesight gets worse.
it really can't be said enough that this is a person who has dined with the president of the united states
Really impressed with the Olympics commercials for AI that keep showing me all the amazing things it can do, like tell me that Olympic athletes train for their events for a long time and other amazing secrets that can only be found by paying big money and draining a lake.
Absolutely. And Iβd really like to hear Gannon, Lipinski and Weir shout her out.
I really wonder if there is a level of overt racism from the Trump Administration, whether rhetorical or as explicit basis for policy, that would get traditional media outlets like @nytimes.com and @washingtonpost.com and @cnn.com to say heβs being racist.
One more comment on the Post debacle: this hurts journalism broadly. Good journalists will go do something else. The rest will be fighting for fewer jobs and everyone will earn less. Fewer people will take up the career. The damage done is to the ecosystem, as well as the paper.
The Washington Post but itβs βThe Traitorsβ

Do journalism, not stenography:
βοΈDo not take DHS at it's word. The agency lies about everything.
βοΈDo not minimize the massive force still in place IF a draw down occurs.
Alt headline: "2300 federal agents to remain in besieged Minneapolis after unverified claims that 700 will be reassigned."
MacKenzie Scott could do the funniest thing right nowβ¦.
βDemocracy Dies is Darkness.β And Bezos turned off the lights.
the guy who financed a propaganda film about the nazi first lady is killing a newspaper that writes unfavorably about her and her husband. this is how the club works.
I second. Itβs not like any valuable reporting comes out of these things anyway. Itβs all just antagonism and lies. (Should have happened after they revoked the APβs credential.)
Sand. In. The. Gears.
This, and the Minneapolis liquor licensing non-renewals for the two hotels hosting ICE.
100%. And when Trump blows off the second ask, a third reporter should pick it up. Donβt relent. These reporters have failed the public.
(Iβm still of the mindset that the whole corps should have walked out after he pulled the APβs credential. Access Journalism for the loss.)

At my house as a kid, weβd drive up and park under the covered portico and then walk directly up and onto the conjoined porch to get inside.
Iβd say itβs from Northerners who donβt move south until theyβre snowbirds and learn too late how the locals pronounce their own state name. π
Itβll always be FLAHriddah to me.
<Stoops have entered the chat>
A series of concrete steps leading to the front door of a townhouse/brownstone/duplex in a city like New York. Critical for the playing of Stoop Ball in places like Queens. (In Baltimore stoops are made from the same marble as the Washington Monument!)
Yeah! A room with walls made of windows, creating a greenhouse-ish effect. We had one growing up, as did my grandparents. Itβs a very NY/Long Island term. (Also, itβs a βFLAriddah Room,β not a FLORida Room.)
Any chance your grandma was from NY?
RCFP's Gabe Rottman: βItβs obviously concerning any time journalists are arrested in connection with their reporting. To our knowledge, itβs unprecedented for the Justice Department to deploy the federal laws it has previously cited in this case against journalistic activity. Historically, the limited number of cases that have been brought against a journalist documenting a protest on private property have been handled as trespass cases at the state level. Those charges are almost always dropped, or if the cases go to trial, the journalists typically prevail.β
@rcfp.org's statement on the arrest of independent journalists Don Lemon and Georgia Fort, who were charged with violating federal law while covering a protest inside a Minnesota church.

The arrests of journalists Don Lemon and Georgia Fort are a test for every MSM member with a platform. If you are not voicing your outrage at this blatant violation of the First Amendment, you are utterly discredited as a journalist.
it turns out it's hard to write when you're in a state of emotional paralysis
Iβm reading The Wager right now and there are a handful of grafs about the latitude problem. Iβd never thought about it before. Adding this to my TBR.
Like, isnβt that part of the benefit of having colleagues? Bouncing stuff off each other? βWhat am I missing? Is this right? Does this suck?β
Freelancer here, never worked in a newsroom. When stuff like this happens I always wonder how it could have gotten through not only multiple edits but also general office chit chat and no one was like βHow are you handling Newsom?β Donβt staffers talk to each other about their work?
NYT push alert: "A person was shot dead today during a struggle with federal agents in Minneapolis, according to officials."
By who? Who shot the person dead? You saw the video. We all know a federal agent shot a man dead who was prone on the ground. Also, it's not "according to officials." It's according to verified video seen with your eyes. Not saying what anyone can obviously see with their eyes is a form of lying.
