It was only in recent years that it was confirmed that the population was higher than the RBBP threshold of 2.5K
(We reckon could be c2,200 pairs in VC66 looked closely since 1990’s).
We still have increases in recent years into new (over stocked amenity / community plantations ) here in several different (& unconnected) Hectads

Nowadays if we want a stock proof barrier we use a fence, not a hedge.
Interconnected successional habitats (especially old rail track scrub) ensure our TyneTees Wilti population is still strong & well connected at landscape scale

I’m not sure who Wilti’s nearest neighbours are in Wales, but as there’s a whole range of special species that do just fine with no interference nor intervention in our tangled old hedgerows

We surveyed every Monad in NZ34 over the early winter period & found over 1,200 in that Hectad
Some local birders are seeing them in gardens for 1st time in 30 years 🎯🙏
