We had a very productive day at the lab today, testing yet-another antibody for GLP-1R and a potential new marker for lymphatic endothelial cells… we also had our last King Cake of the season as a lab. We are on home stretch for Mardi Gras 2026!

We decided to start keeping track of the number of isolated lymphatics we successfully study. A strong 138 vessels in January… and not too shabby for a PI to run 52. @maryschulz.bsky.social is killing it, her and I hogged our 2 systems. I’m sure @keithkeane.bsky.social will have a strong February.

Our new preprint led by @maryschulz.bsky.social is now up. We show that semaglutide enhances the pumping capacity of collecting lymphatics. Our results support recent case reports suggesting beneficial effects of GLP-1R agonists in secondary lymphedema patients.

Very proud of my student @maryschulz.bsky.social, who just received a NOA for her NIH-F31 project to study obesity-induced lymphatic dysfunction and explore novel therapeutics. Our study with Mike Davis showing that a component of the lymphatic contractile impairment in db/db mice is mediated by the activation of KATP channels in lymphatic muscle cells, in part due to chronic metabolic stress associated with elevated glucose, is now out.
