Mr. Eliason, who advocates allowing single-stair construction for small multifamily buildings as a solution to the housing crisis, said he learned how common the design was outside the United States while working in Germany in 2019.

After seeing an 11-story tower his firm at the time had designed, Mr. Eliason recalled, he turned to his boss and said: "Something is wrong here. Where's your other stair?"

"He's looking at me, and said: 'What are you talking about? If there was another stair, there wouldn't be any room for the homes'"

Single-stair gets the New York Times treatment. @holz-bau.bsky.social reminds us why they call the last line the kicker: www.nytimes.com/2026/03/04/b... (gift link)

The street plan law has a phased approach to citywide bike & bus lane networks. The 1st, to 2026, relied on boosting output w mileage benchmarks. Going forward, it imposes citywide coverage & connectivity metrics. With mileage goals lapsing, there is a case for strengthening 2nd phase requirements

Hochul Raises Alarm on Costs of Climate Law as Skeptics Call Foul A controversial new state memo citing rising costs for NYC households in the coming years has raised concerns the governor is trying to roll back environmental mandates.

What's up with a memo saying the climate law will cost NYC residents an extra $2,300/year? It's Gov. Hochul's latest pitch to revise the law.

But is the estimate legit? Hard to say. "Trying to seriously critique this is like shadow-boxing,” one source said.

It’s now abundantly clear that my assumption for more than a decade that nobody at the @mta.info knows how to change these signs on the R143s is absolutely true.

This Day in Labor History: March 3, 1931. President Herbert Hoover signed the Davis-Bacon Act, establishing a requirement for the government to pay local prevailing wages on public works projects. Let's talk Davis-Bacon, how it helps the trades, and the lies that it is a racist law!

β€œhow are they going to fulfill the targets that are very much required by law in the next five-year plan? And so, we’re going to be looking at whether the city has a plan and whether or not it has the resources to execute the plan that the Streets Master Plan requires.” ― @shaunabreu.bsky.social

A large white serif quote appears on the left side of the image reading: β€œIt’s not my duty as mayor to make sure you have a parking spot. For me, it’s the same as if you bought a cow, or a refrigerator, and then asked me where you’re going to put them.” His name and title appear below the quote.

It is not the government’s job to provide storage space for your private property. Cars are no different.

Roads exist to move people and goods, not to store private vehicles. Governments at all levels need to start calling out and enforcing that reality.

If we get through this, the U.S. will have to dramatically change its relationship with the International Criminal Court and be okay with sending a lot of Americans there.

Personal news update: I'm delighted to announce that as of today, I am an actual Bluesky employee! I'll be working to welcome indie media and local govt to Bskyβ€”and supporting those already here.

I'll always want to hear your thoughts on how we can make Bsky the sort of social media we all want!
