GW Bush spent a long time preparing the US public for the 2003 invasion of Iraq. Trump has done none of that. It will be fascinating to see how the public reacts now, compared to then.

What would one need to do to get an actual meaningful prison sentence in this country?
As I saw personally from years of hospital campaigning, so many problems in this country come back to the horror story that is @hselive.bsky.social #RTEInvestigates
I wonder will Peter Mandelson join Reform UK? It's where all the British political rejects seem to be finding their home lately!
Will Tony Blair stand down from Trump's Gaza peace committee (or whatever it's called) for the horrific dishonouring of the soldiers that he, Blair, sent to war beside America in the 2000s? He will in his hole.

Is there anything to be said for appointing Mark Rutte as Donald Trump's psychiatrist? He seems to have a way with him ๐คฃ
So is this how the world works for the next three years? Everytime Trump doesn't get what he wants internationally, he threatens tariffs and the world complies out of economic fear?
They're just doing what they want now, wherever they want to.
Is he ever at home?!
For the remainder of my life I will be so grateful for the couple of hours I spent side-by-side with our wonderful president in December 2023. I was privileged to experience his wisdom, his charm, his wit and his warmth.
Godspeed Michael D. Higgins. And thank you...
I remember coming home from school on Thursdays as a small child in Clane and watching Pauline Collins on Upstairs Downstairs. Probably my earliest memory of television. ๐
To wake up a prince and go to bed not...it's not often we get to live through such a historical moment with a full awareness of how unprecedented it really is.
Thought and prayers for the newsrooms of the Sunday Indo and the Irish Mail on Sunday.

This month's Tipperary's Hidden History on @tippfm.bsky.social was not an easy listen. Another sad perspective on the attitudes of those operating the dreaded workhouse.

How shocking would it be if the cardinals gave us as big a shock as the OJ Simpson murder trial jury and wrapped it up in about four hours?!!

Watched a BBC Storyville doc last night on the Christian Evangelical Right in the US & their path to armageddon which only runs through a restoration of Biblical-era Israeli borders. And they are now firmly established on Capitol Hill & in the White House. Utterly depressing.
So who starts this week a cardinal and ends the week as Pope?
For me, there's no more fascinating leadership contest in the world. And dramatic.
Now that the funeral is over, the only conclave movie I'm interested in watching in the coming weeks is The Shoes of the Fisherman.
Liberation Day my backside.
I agree that local history should be more effectively linked to national contexts in primary & secondary education. For example, who is that street named after and why? Now let's have an honest, unvarnished look at that person. We really should not shy away from the difficult questions.
