We know that, for a ton of reasons, a lot of folks don't have as much to spend as they'd like this holiday season. Sooooooo, here's a thread of things you can do that will support your local indie bookstore or other business WITHOUT spending any more than you intended...

Compare a display from our first ever pop-up just two weeks ago (is THAT all it’s been?!) with last night’s. Our garden is growing! #IndieBookstore

Hispanic Heritage Month OK. We probably don't have to tell you that Richelle, a former librarian, went a little bonkers on this list.

Bookseller Richelle is also former librarian Richelle, so nothing made her happier than assembling our Hispanic Heritage Month list on Bookshop #BookSky #IndieBookstore bookshop.org/lists/hispan...

The spread at our first pop-up bookstore/craft night! Does it kind of look like we hunted down this table of books and are posing with it as a trophy? Because that’s not too bad a description of what’s happening. #IndieBookstore

We love that the first book we ever sold was Harriet Tubman: Live in Concert by Bob the Drag Queen and we love that we sold it to Stuart Holt, President and CEO of ArtsFairfax, a cherished supporter of ours. WE’RE BOOKSELLERS!!! #BookSky #IndieBookstore

Barbara Newman Β· Dirty Books: Boccaccio’s Reputation Boccaccio took great pains with the Decameron. He revised it extensively and produced several copies with his own hand,...

β€˜Why, to avoid naming Boccaccio, did Chaucer invent a fictional Latin poet as his source for π˜›π˜³π˜°π˜ͺ𝘭𝘢𝘴? It seems that Boccaccio already had a reputation problem.’

Crocosmia by Miranda Mellis A philosophical fable, Crocosmia centers on Maya as she recollects the "great turning"--a moment of radical social and ecological change effected in part by the art of her mother, Jane. As Maya recalls her upbringing--from a commune run by anarchist nuns to a time of rural isolation before her mother's disappearance--Mellis's prose gorgeously conjures a life defined by revolutionary thought and action and the interplay and tension between family life and political commitment. At once a fantasy, a handbook to political thought, and a work of eco-fiction, this lush novel meditates on how, in a world on the precipice, dreams of communal care can bloom.

Hey #BookSky It's a lovely Saturday morning. It's tax free weekend in MA. It's a good day to buy yourself a work of radical, speculative...optimism. And support a kickass small press while you're at it.

Inside Penguin Books' Northamptonshire archive A nondescript warehouse is home to more than 1.5 million books by the famed publisher.

"Her favourite part of the Penguin Books archive? It's the Terry Pratchett collection, devoted to the work of the bestselling author of the Discworld series."

Sorry but Pratchett was not a Penguin author, irrespective of subsequent mergers / acquisitions. He was Gollancz and Corgi and that is that.

This biography of Laura Ingalls Wilder has everything: big business assaults on scientific facts, species extinction, the fuzzy line between memoir and fiction, copyright battles, fraught mother-daughter relationships and the Koch Brothers. Absolutely compelling and completely contemporary.
