Itβs troubling to watch, was added for the wrong reasons and I agree itβs out of line with the baron in the other films (except maybe Curse). The one thing that does track though is Annaβs demeanour thereafter. Sheβs clearly disassociated. A stellar and underrated performance from Carlson overall. π€
Black and white behind the scenes image of director Terence Fisher on set pointing to script as a smiling Peter Cushing and Veronica Carlson look on.
Fisher, Cushing and Carlson on set for Hammerβs Frankenstein Must be Destroyed, which completed filming on this day in 1969 π€
Hammers sumptuous take on the tale is beautifully shot with a gloriously sinister Lom behind the mask and Gough in fine villain form. Underrated. 1962.

Splendid stuff. With its roots in folklore and misty moors it's Hammer horror at heart. Ripper and Reed are top support while creepy Cushing owns it. 1962.

Although the soul-transference angle is a bit silly, Cushing is on electric form, the tragic love story works, and Denberg is unsettling as the possessed Christine (a device later echoed in Hands of the Ripper). Camp and enjoyably outlandish at times, but it closes as a bleak, oddly moving tragedy.

I grew up in the 80s and was all over the new movies then, but Hammer was just as much part of the viewing selection. I feel like we were more exposed to older stuff than kids are today, and they're unfortunately missing out.
