I haven't bought from Amazon for a long, long while, but I still had public wishlists on there. I just logged on and deleted them. Super not safe.

Last week, my mother took me and my kids to see the school where, 60 years ago, she was among the first wave of Black students to integrate a previously all-White school. We wanted to remind my kids that Black history is not just famous people in textbooks, it is often the people right next to you.
"Enemies to lovers" should mean "we have been drawn into a conflict that is bigger than either of us that has alienated us from society to the point where my enemy is the only one who understands me" and should involve at least one murder attempt.
Not: "my new co-worker is meant to me :( but hot?"
Oh, and my hottest take: Bad Boy Romances are just Horse Girl stories.
(He is wild and dangerous and everyone has given up on him except for her; she is able to break through to his wounded exterior and gain his trust and now has all his strength and power under her command.)
This guy gets it.
Bernie Sanders meme edited to read "I am once again asking for the men to match their partners' swag in figure skating costumes"

Like, as depressing as it would be for appropriate support for universities to be a fully partisanized issue, it would be quite a bit LESS depressing than the status quo, where an idea like creating institutions Γ la the UC system of the 1960s and 70s is fully outside the two-party Overton window
Reminds me of the dynamic where R's say all their nonsense about the radical Marxist indoctrination in universities and then Dems very nervously say "um we believe that higher education plays an important role in training our nation's future workforce, btw we can no longer afford the English dept"
If you RTd the news of Fobazi's passing, work in LIS, or have ever uttered the phrase "vocational awe", it's time to put your money where your mouth is. We owe her that much at least. Please donate.
Children's librarianship suffered a grievous blow when this man decided his calling was politics
People living under fascism didnβt survive by giving up joyβthey protected it.
They held onto the things fascism tried to erase: art, friendship, jokes, rituals, language, memory.
Not as escapism but as resistance. As proof they were still human.
Joy isnβt frivolous under fascism. Itβs strategic.
What a huge loss. Sending my sincerest condolences to her family and friends. May her memory be a blessing.
"Last summer, the city of Portland paid millions to descendants of Black families forced from their homes by racist urban renewal projects."
"It was an effort decades in the making."
"And one of the driving forces was a local librarian."

So, librarians, do you have a contingency plan for when these goons enter your facility? You might not be able to block access to a public building, but how are you alerting your patrons? Do you have a plan to get them out safely? Because you should.
this is literally happening because someone called Wu beat a failson named Kraft with 71% of the vote
This is just some ordinary dude no one had ever heard of, quietly getting by, and the administration has decided in a fit of pique to hound him for the rest of his life because otherwise they'd have to tacitly admit they're capricious incompetent villains. Just let him live, ffs

Netflixβs acquisition of Warner Bros would be the latest in this harmful trend β and could kill the movie theater industry.
If Netflix gets their way, their increased domination would make things worse for viewers and artists.

Forty years ago, 90% of media outlets were spread across 50 companies.
Now, just 5 companies control 90% of the media market.
This consolidation hurts consumers and helps oligarchs. π§΅
The positive outcome of this story is that in frantically googling around trying to figure out what happened and how I could at least see the end of the episode, I discovered that the show is available at my local library and actually can be streamed thence via Hoopla π
The other night I was idly watching the sixth episode in a new-to-me TV series on Netflix and about 10 minutes before the end of the episode the playback froze. After trying to restart it for a bit I exited and re-opened Netflix and the entire series had disappeared, apparently deleted from the app.
