I believe it. This past year I was screamed at by another driver for stopping for a bus with lights flashing and stop sign out. Driver sped off to the daycare drop off just further up the road...

so jealous. Over in Richmond there is a preliminary plan to install a traffic circle on McBryde in front of Wildcat Canyon with *no* crosswalks. Like it is right in front of the pedestrian entrance to the park
NOAA is undercutting their own agency from providing timely tsunami warnings. This affects more than just Alaska- many earthquakes and tsunamis that originate there impact communities across the Pacific.
its also very hard to be a lower end buyer- yes some basic models of cars exist in theory. But in reality they never have them on the lot. Or at least this is what family was experiencing when trying to buy a minivan
Yeah they did Oregon and Washington at 10:14, SoCal at 10:15, and NorCal at 10:16
Is your homebase set to southern California? MyShake sent out the alert to SoCal at 10:15 and NorCal at 10:16 to separate the alerting traffic.
The drill was through MyShake, but if you haven't opened the app in a while then some phones deprioritize its ability to send a drill alert, like today. Also if the app hasn't been updated recently then it may not send the drill (but some w/ older versions will still send test notifications instead)
is this related to the Wildcat mountain bike track? That has been stirring a lot of off and on drama on ND
or, and hear me out: Blue Jays
Oh I feel this. It took me almost 4 months to get my leave approved including multiple documents from doctors and insurance. My husband's took 5 days. The same family leave and the same employer.
Impeccable timing that the M4.3 earthquake near Berkeley's campus happened the day before I teach the types of faults + Hayward fault lecture.
Big jolt this morning. Probably the most intense shaking I've felt, though the sudden 3 am wake up might have added to that.
15 hours of flying with an in-arms toddler was a decision. #Lufthansa check-in agent forcing us to check the stroller, rather than gate check because gate checking is "against policy and a security risk" was an extra fun bonus. Spoiler: very much not against policy and wtf not a security risk
Went for a run in Helsinki and cars actually stop when the pedestrian light is on at crosswalks. No one speeding up to try and beat me to the intersection. Even on a slip lane, drivers were aware of bikes/peds. Wild.
The daycare coughs are starting again. I fear it will only be another few days for us.
Also think its a data issue- I'm pretty confident there is a housing complex going up right next to San Pablo City Hall that doesn't show up on this map.
After a 25-hour workday, I'm finally home from this #tsunami response! I have many thoughts to share soon, but most of them come down to "hey, maybe we shouldn't defund the National Tsunami Hazard Mitigation Program, which funds the vast majority of state-level tsunami work in the US!"
i bet they accidentally cut off PAAQ, which is NTWC's national weather service ID.
Image of the coast of California showing the area between the state line and cape Mendocino in red.
Part of Northern California (from the CA/OR border to Cape Mendicino) is now under a Tsunami Warning. The rest of California remains under a Tsunami Advisory.

A cursory USGS look-up reveals that this M8.8 tied for 6th largest quake ever recorded by instruments. Also, taxpayer-funded science and tech agencies save lives.

first ever on-air news interview talking about the tsunami. Which went fine (?) but very off-putting to see myself on a screen as I am talking.
Crescent City having a forecast of 3-6 ft while further up/down the coast having a < 1 ft forecast is also one of these places where focusing makes a bigger local tsunami
procrastinators unite! Also what is this and how much more is registration going to cost because of it...
I am pretty convinced that many people know they are supposed to yield when entering, but just choose not to and expect that other cars will drive defensively around them.
What is their argument here? Parking minimums per ADU? An increase in transit (bonus if it is a magical increase only during an evacuation)? And somehow these increased buses and cars will not just cause more gridlock
Sand Point earthquake coming in clearly + whatever is making a lot of noise in the garage...
and Aug 2016 when a vote came up.
June 2016
Going deep into the minutes linked in the ABC article: it looks like Kerr County tried to get a river warning system up and running in 2016 but was thwarted by someone who just doesn't like the idea of sirens....
I still can't get past the idea that people in America are now supposed to accept that this is a valid form of law enforcement and just assume it's fine when random dudes in groups with face-coverings, no ID, no warrant, & no uniform grab people off the street and force them into unmarked vehicles
