Anyone who can recommend a good book in #eco-evo #ecoevo or #ecology and #evolution? Preferably theoretical :)
Thank you~

β³ Two weeks left to apply to our Summer School, and benefit from the early-bird rate!
Donβt miss this opportunity to join us for a week of inspiring lectures and discussions with an exceptional community of researchers - all set in the beautiful Pyrenees β°οΈ βοΈ
We look forward to welcoming you!
π§ͺπ
In case you missed it: our review titled "Spatial structure: shaping the ecology and evolution of microbial communities" is out! π¨
Let me hit you with some highlights on why spatial structure matters. (and why you should care!)
Sharing is appreciated π π§΅π

What the actual....
Even if it was not a predatory journal, the way it's written, the only actual answer is no... This thing is pure cringe. Such big words and then the "thyself"... Just wow!
I'm extremely grateful to have received the Anne Keymer prize for my oral presentation at the BES annual meeting 2025! A big thank you to the @britishecologicalsociety.org and everyone who came along to the talkβit was an absolute honour to have the chance to share my research with you all!
The top one is "the Shadow"??
Jfc... That's horrible...

All we need is one ticket for me, if someone has one to spare.... π
Perfectly said!
AI is the easy way out of everything and the easy solution of everything... Maybe in a way it "differentiates" (for a lack of better word) people who are in it for the passion of learning, improving, etc, and those who are in it for the results and don't care how they reach them. Easy being better

π¨POSTDOC JOB ALERTπ¨
We have an exciting opportunity for a 2 year postdoc on remote sensing of icebergs and marine terminating glaciers. See the link below for more info!
Please spread widely, and feel free to email me with any Q's :)

I LOVE zines! I LOVE that people always find ways to share their ideas far and wide! Expression and worries and rising up should and can't be silenced :)
All of them were so so good! And I have to admit I learned a lot myself by reading them! :D
Sequential images (BD, comics, whatever) are such such a fun thing to do and I think all who make 'em support each other! We share the same passion :D That's the BEST part :D
A bunch of drawn stickers about comics stuck to sheets of paper on the floor
Closeup on a student drawn sticker - this one about space
Closeup on a student drawn sticker - this one about analysis
Closeup on a student drawn sticker - this one about making stuff
One of my favorite things in class - last day of term in my intro comics class, I do a whirlwind recap of every single thing we did over the term - then I have Ss each sketch out a main takeaway from the course & take turns explaining & sticking down to big sheet. Itβs a blast! Some highlights 1/3
Hey fellow wizards, I'll be at the #BES Annual Meeting in #Edinburgh next week!
If you're interested in food web and metacommunity models, emergence of self-organised patterns and eco-evo feedbacks, please join the >> Theoretical/Computational Ecology << session on Tuesday afternoon π¦
WTF is wrong with the world? o.O
1945 was not even a century ago, cold war ended in the 90s... Do they even get that they are destroying everything around them and they're playing with VERY VERY BAD stuff for everyone??
It won't be good for business cause there will be no business... JFC....
C&B has been dying a slow death for months, and it seems that no one cares.
Support articles like the one below; soon they won't be anywhere on the internet.
For the last time, we are asking you to help us survive; please share this link with all your friends: cinephiliabeyond.org/donate2024/
I am on my first year of my PhD.... Knowing I'll go through it (again after trying to start a PhD), is sooooo comforting (not)...
Hey, I know we're all trying to weather an idiotic societal collapse, but do you want to preorder my new book or buy the original cover art drawing? I'm looking for another job(s?) but in the meantime I'm selling off originals to try to keep the lights on.
I had no idea there were these many demons in science :O
Why is it that evolutionary biology these days is 99% bioinformatics and *omics and 1% everything else (more abstract, mathematical, even wetlab oriented)? :/
At least based on what I see anyway... Maybe I'm wrong. If I am please say so! :) It'll make me a bit happier :)
Being there was so so so so damn great!!! :D
Highly encouraged to chill, be in a cool scientific atmosphere and talk with people who know a LOT on science, open to new ideas, cook AMAZING vegetarian/vegan food and are nerds to the bone (warhammer, games, manga, anime, BD)! (There's a donkey around)
It was absolutely great being there \o/
The whole experience rocked so hard! :D
A request for biologists (reposts appreciated): do you have any images of "reduction spots" like those in the Mars biosignature paper, but on Earth and 100% confirmed to be caused by life?
Also welcome: pic of any "leopard spots" patterns caused by colonies of organisms.
Funny thing is that I read an article on medium with a historical book review... After some point (after the 2nd paragraph) it felt weird... It turned my stomach around as it seemed an alien and weird language... I am pretty sure it was AI and in the end I just wanted to vomit... I get you...
Kurt Vonnegut. I've been enjoying drawing folks favorite writers.
The lines! These lines! I am in love with it :O
This is looking extremely promising! It just needs more and more people! Be one of them! \o/
I presume that these people were partly in biology because they didn't like math as BSc students :P
I think that math can give intuition about complex phenomena in a "universal", non-descriptive/verbal language. There is no model to describe everything in detail, but it can push our understanding.
Can a single cell learn? Even without a brain, some microbes show simple forms of cognition. Can this basal cognition be engineered? Check our new paper with @jordiplam.bsky.social on the minimal synthetic circuits & their cognitive limits. @drmichaellevin.bsky.social www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...
