Malaysia and Indonesia become the first countries to block Grok, the artificial intelligence chatbot developed by Elon Muskβs xAI, after authorities said it was being misused to generate sexually explicit and non-consensual images.
Love this quote from the article: βI characterize science as a bunch of 5-year-olds playing soccer,β says another researcher [Sam Goldman]. βThey all go where the ball is, running around the field in a herd.β

Agreed
This is a good article about the history of Parkinsonβs research & the influence of genes & the environment on the disease.
If you teach biology this is a good article to share with your students to discuss not only research priorities but the need to understand our environment as well as genetics
In his veto letter, President Trump blamed the Miccosukee Tribe for having βactively sought to obstruct reasonable immigration policies that the American people decisively voted for when I was elected.β

Poorly preserved photo of Mt. Lassen, which awoke from a 27,000 year dormancy on May 30th, 1914. This is likely one of the earliest series of steam explosions that finally culminated in an explosive May 15th, 1915 eruption. More at the comment below.
Back of picture is captioned with βMt Lassenβ (Shasta has been crossed out, a mistake by the author) βJuly 17 - 1914 11:45 AM one half mile distantβ
An 111 year-old photo of Mt. Lassen volcanic activity reminds us that Lassen is active and will eventually erupt again. Below (comment) is a link to the history of the 1914 - 1917 eruptions that include the one below. Picture from great uncle and provided by cousin.

So that's #365Minerals over and done with. It's been eight(!) years since I did the first #365Minerals over on Twitter - it was inspired by #365Papers. I'm glad that this time around I could use my own photos of specimens on display in the NHM! Thanks for following! π§ͺβοΈπ
Picture looking south on the Berwickshire coast showing a section of Carboniferous cliffs. Rocks are sandstones belonging to the Fell Sandstone Formation. They are composed of fluvial (river) sandstones with interbedded mudstones, deposited in a floodplain setting. The rocks are now dipping almost vertically due to tectonic activity associated with the variscan orogeny (mountain building event).
