Theory Methods Society –

Curious about how psychological theories are built, tested, and refined in practice? This summer, the Theory Methods Society is launching the very first edition of the summer school Theory Building in Psychology at the University of Amsterdam (July 6–10, 2026).

Thrilled that this first empirical paper out of the lab is posted, led by Sandarsh Pandey, asking:

Depression (and other internalizing disorders) involve profound changes to sense of self. How can we study these differences using rigorous decision-making methods?

Our lab handbook has a highly specific (some would say anal) file naming protocol. Yet this does not stop students from referring to e.g., "dissertation study 3" and expecting me to remember what the heck that is.

Many such manuscripts sadly. Or if you have longitudinal data you can also discover increasing, decreasing and unchanging groups too.

But Julia, what if we really need to discover there are low, medium and high groups? /s

Evaluating Panel Quality in Review (ENQUIRE) New | NIH Center for Scientific Review

Per the website this is an ongoing process since 2019 (scroll down for earlier years), they are just doing one batch of study sections at a time. It is hard to figure out what is alarming and what is business as usual these days, but this seems to be the latter public.csr.nih.gov/EvaluationIn...

You know that annoying NSF form "List every coauthor/co-PI from the last 4y" ?

At @cevianlabs.io we built a free tool that drafts the COI form from your PDF CV in minutes. Check it out πŸ‘‡

Oh no!
I think that would be impossible on mine - you have to hold the safety bar in or it immediately stops running.

Today's MVP - not sure what I would have done without it! Sidewalks are now tunnels with at least 4' snowbanks. Will try to help out some more neighbors tomorrow.

Hope everyone else in the snowpocalypse zone is safe and warm!

Mt. Alice

You might be amused to know that both my cats, James and Alice, are actually named after two of my favorite Colorado 13ers, James Peak and Mt. Alice. I thought it was fun to give them human/not-human names

I can see out the front windows so I can confirm outside still exists at least locally. It is a very white outside. I was going to attempt a second round of snow blowing but it would probably be immediately blown right back.

There is definitely a learning curve but most things are pretty straightforward. But if you are more comfortable with Python and starting from scratch, it would make sense to just use PsychPy, especially given it is open source vs. paying for E-Prime.

23.02.2026 17:22 πŸ‘ 2 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

Gearing up to start incorporating some behavioral tasks into the lab- is E-prime still the best "go-to" re: features and flexibility, or are their other softwares that have superseded it?

#PsychSciSky

23.02.2026 14:41 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 2 πŸ’¬ 4 πŸ“Œ 0

We still use E-prime (largely because we don't want to have to reprogram all our tasks and processing pipelines) but a lot of folks use PsychoPy and seem happy with it.
