#Geomorphology Week is ending, and I was lucky enough to get down to #HotSprings #NationalPark where 4,000 yr heated #groundwater rises to Earthโs surface via the Hot Springs #Fault, part of the Ouachita Orogeny. Late Glacial to Early Holocene Vegetation Reconstruction from the Wenas Creek Mammoth Site in Washington State
The Wenas Creek Mammoth site pollen record, which extends from โผ20,000โ10,000 cal yr BP, is significant given that few eastern Cascade paleoecological records span the Late Glacial to Early Holocen...
Happy #FossilFriday here is a wee climate paper that I coauthored. We found that 20kya eastern Washington was drying and warming up and chasing away all the pesky pine trees (ew, trees).
As usual with pleistocene stuff, my job was figuring out how old all the dirt was (age-depth modelling)

An ammonite looking stone object on a stand. The tag states it is 29.5 inches diameter, and claims it's 300 million years old, from the Atlas Mountains in Morocco. It's for sale for $1898.00
Close-up of part of the object showing distinct chisel marks.

IANAP (I am not a paleontologist), but, this putative ammonite fossil, for sale in a shop in New Mexico, seems manipulated and not quite authentic.

Assortment of fossil marine reptiles on display at the main hall of the Center for Paleontological Investigations, Villa de Leyva
P.S the Center for Paleontological Investigations, where this specimen is displayed, holds an impressive collection of fossils - and it is just one of three museums in the town of Villa de Leyva! A window into an early Cretaceous marine ecosystem

A piece of the 300 million year old seabed that used to cover this area. The sand ripples are caused, then as they are now, by winds disturbing the waters above. So in some ways this is a preserved breeze from hundreds of millions of years ago. ๐ฌ
