CfP: Women’s Contributions to Political Economy During the 19th Century  Vol. 5 Journal of the History of Women Philosophers and Scientists Editors: Karen Green (University of Melbourne) & Ruth Edith Hagengruber (Paderborn University) By the beginning of the nineteenth century, political thought had shifted away from Enlightenment ideals of moral progress and toward a more scientific conception of political and economic developments grounded in economic theory. Adam Smith’s Wealth of Nations inspired widespread interest in political economy. Women such as Jane Marcet and Harriet Martineau emerged as early popularisers and interpreters of this new science.

A sharp new look at Jeannot Bullet and the early Haitian Revolution—far more complex than the usual “villain” narrative. A fascinating rethink of power, violence, and revolutionary vision in 1791. @nicolaivoneggers.bsky.social

For me, it’s been ten years of precarity and the new position also is not permanent (but it’s four years with good condition so I’m not complaining). I known what the consequences are in terms of mental health and the ability to have and maintain social relations.

Photo of the cover of Slagmark’s special issue on "The People, Democracy, and Populism." The cover contains an image of a crowd storming a palace. The picture is titled "The Storming of the Winter Palace" and is from a 1920 reenactment of the storming of the Winter Palace that occurred during the October Revolution in 1917 and was, from 1922 and onwards, presented as an image of the original events. It illustrates both the victory of popular sovereignty over medieval privilege and the virtual and performative aspects of the people and popular sovereignty so central to modern politics.

Slagmark #85: "The People, Democracy, and Populism," which I co-edited, is now available open access (tidsskrift.dk/slagmark/iss...).

It contains an introduction, 10 articles, and an enquete, exploring these three concepts, their historical development, and contemporary relevance. 1/7

Link nedenfor.

It is organized around capital. Science is embraced when it serves the interests of capital, and is often ignored when it does not."
